Warm temperatures to stay around all weekend

Las Vegas' "sunny and warm" trend put Friday's record high in jeopardy, but temperatures did not break the record and aren't likely to do so Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

A record high of 75 degrees was set in the valley on this day in 1954, meteorologist Justin Pullin said. But Friday's high reached only 74 — just one degree shy of the record.

Another shot at record-breaking temperatures is not in the forecast, according to the weather service. Saturday's record high is 79 degrees, and the expected high will only reach 75 degrees.

"It continues to be a quiet forecast," Pullin said about the consistent mid-70 highs and upper-40 lows. These temperatures are 10 or more degrees above normal, but are not expected to break February's record high of 87 degrees set in 1986.

Cloud coverage is expected to increase Saturday and Sunday afternoon, making way for a beautiful Valentine's Day sunset.

The warm temperatures are melting the snow on Mount Charleston and have already brought the depth from 12 inches to 9 inches over the last 24 hours. The snow is expected to melt several more inches inches per day, Pullin said.
