Wind advisory issued for Sunday in Las Vegas Valley

Strong winds bringing gusts that could reach 60 mph in some areas are in store for the Las Vegas Valley on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service has issued a strong wind warning starting Sunday morning and lasting through Monday morning.

Saturday’s high reached 93 degrees with winds up to 40 mph in some parts of the valley, the weather service said. Winds will increase to 40 to 50 mph on Sunday, and some neighborhoods could see gusts up to 60 mph.

The wind advisory will take effect 11 a.m. Sunday, and will last through 3 a.m. Monday, the weather service said. Sunday’s forecast high is 88 degrees. By Monday the high should dip to 80 degrees, close to the record low for June 12, which was 79 degrees in 2010.

Winds will decrease through the day Monday, and Tuesday should be clear and calm with a forecast 90-degree high.

By Wednesday the valley will warm up again with a forecast high of 98 degrees, the weather service said.
