FLAG FOOTBALL: Rivera, Pioneers edge visiting Wildcats

Tea Rivera tossed two touchdown passes and rushed for a score Friday to help Canyon Springs’ flag football team hold off visiting Las Vegas, 20-19.

Rivera completed 12 of 23 passes for 206 yards. She also rushed for 27 yards and a touchdown on five carries.

Amaya Youngblood caught five passes for 104 yards and a touchdown for the the Pioneers, and teammate Destini Cooper caught a 20-yard touchdown pass.

Legacy 51, Durango 6 — At Legacy, Avi’Ana Shelton rushed for 261 yards and three touchdowns and caught a TD pass as the Longhorns routed the Trailblazers.

Akia Williams ran for 102 yards and three TDs on 10 carries for Legacy. Ariana Witecki tossed two touchdown passes, one to Nicole White, for the Longhorns.

Centennial 40, Western 7 — At Centennial, Kiana Sai threw four touchdown passes to lead the Bulldogs by the Warriors.

Aliyah Wyrick caught a TD pass and ran for a score for Centennial. Isabel Barilla, Monay Daniels and Alexis Girardi each hauled in a touchdown pass, and Ashley Marshall ran for a TD for the Bulldogs.

Sierra Vista 26, Moapa Valley 16 — At Sierra Vista, Calista Reyes rushed for 210 yards and two touchdowns as the Mountain Lions defeated the Pirates.

Kalei Watkins threw for 96 yards and two touchdowns, both to Vladana Lazic, who finished with 84 receiving yards. Watkins added 53 yards rushing for Sierra Vista.

Cimarron-Memorial 53, Bonanza 14 — At Cimarron, Jaymee Luke passed for four touchdowns and ran for four more to help the Spartans beat the the Bengals.

DeShan Cambrit caught three passes for 44 yards and two touchdowns to help Cimarron.

Virgin Valley 19, Desert Oasis 13 — At Desert Oasis, the Bulldogs topped the Diamondbacks.

Kylee Bauer ran for a touchdown and threw for 150 yards, including a TD pass to Sydni Aldan, for Desert Oasis.

Palo Verde 25, Spring Valley 6 — At Spring Valley, the Panthers topped the Grizzlies.

Amberlynn Twigg tossed for 170 yards, including a touchdown pass to Michaela Hood, for Spring Valley.

Cheyenne 26, Shadow Ridge 20 — At Cheyenne, the Desert Shields downed the Mustangs in overtime.

Valley 13, Del Sol 6 — At Valley, the Vikings defeated the Dragons.

Desert Oasis student’s cause of death released

Sophomore Ashari Hughes, 16, of Las Vegas, died on Jan. 5 after collapsing during a Desert Oasis flag football game against Valley.
