BASEBALL: Capanna leads Gaels to win in Chris Moon Classic

Beau Capanna had three hits and five RBIs Thursday and Bishop Gorman’s baseball team used an eight-run first inning to roll to a 16-3 five-inning win over St. Laurence (Ill.) in the Chris Moon Classic in Tucson, Arizona.

Myles Denson added three hits for Gorman, and Braxton Wehrle and Jordan Sadovia each drove in three runs for the Gaels.

Zach Grech threw a five-hitter and struck out four to get the win.

Gorman faces Canyon Del Oro (Ariz.) in the tournament final at 3 p.m. Friday.

Canyon del Oro (Ariz.) 3, Rancho 0 — At Tucson, Arizona, Carter Kahn and Spencer Packard combined on a four-hitter as the Dorados beat the Rams.

Joey Walls went 2-for-3 with a double for Rancho. Anthony Guzman also doubled for the rams, who trailed 3-0 after the fourth inning.

Poway (Calif.) 5, Green Valley 4 — At San Diego, the Titans scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally by the Gators in the Lions Tournament.

Kevin Bristow doubled home Blake Wagonseller with the winning run.

Ryan Gagliano was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs for the Titans, who trailed 3-0 after the top of the fifth.

Drake Maningo went 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs, and teammate Gavin Morley doubled for Green Valley.

Madison (Calif.) 6, Silverado 1 — At San Diego, Andrew Shebloski homered to help the Warhawks beat the Skyhawks in the Lions Tournament.

Shaun Little threw four scoreless innings to earn the win for Madison.

Michael Camburn went 2-for-3 with a double for Silverado.

Adelson School 22, Spring Mountain 7 — At Adelson School, Samuel Shain went 4-for-4 with a triple, and the Lions scored 17 runs in the second inning en route to the win over the Golden Eagles.

Ethan Finkelstein also went 4-for-4 for Adelson School, and Brandon Pappas and Aaron Schwartz each added two hits.

Jorge Medina went 3-for-4 for Spring Mountain.
