BASEBALL: Festa’s walk-off hit lifts Cougars past Gators

Nicco Festa’s one-out single off the pitcher’s leg plated Anthony Olheiser with the winning run in the seventh inning as Coronado’s baseball team walked off with a 5-4 win over visiting Green Valley on Friday.

Olheiser drew a one-out walk to start the rally and moved to second on Sterling Saltz’s single to right before scoring when Festa’s shot ricocheted off Frankie Fitzgerald’s leg and into right field.

Festa had two hits, two runs and two RBIs, and winning pitcher Donte Glover was 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs for the Cougars.

Eric Samson was 3-for-3 with an RBI, and Ty Burger went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs for the Gators.

Spring Valley 4, Sierra Vista 3 — At Sierra Vista, Bryce Bullock induced a groundout to third with the tying run on third base in the bottom of the seventh inning to preserve the Grizzlies’ win over the Mountain Lions.

Starter Nick Rupp picked up the win, striking out six over 6 1/3 innings before running into trouble in the seventh.

Shayne Watkins went 2-for-3 with a double for the Grizzlies, and Rupp was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

David Perez had an RBI for the Mountain Lions.

Arbor View 7, Centennial 5 — At Arbor View, Sam Pastrone was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs, and Jayce Gardner went 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and a run as the Aggies beat the Bulldogs.

Ben Cutting pitched six innings, striking out eight, to get the win.

Jared Drizin hit two doubles and drove in two runs for Centennial.

Rancho 5, Foothill 1 — At Rancho, Kavion Kealoha tossed a seven-hitter and struck out eight to lead the Rams by the Falcons.

Andrew Wieger was 2-for-3 with a triple, a run and an RBI for Rancho, which broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Spencer Throgmorton went 2-for-3 with a double for Foothill.

Shadow Ridge 10, Legacy 6 — At Legacy, Eric Jordan got a groundout to second with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to preserve the Mustangs’ win over the Longhorns.

Quinn Ayers was 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs and three RBIs, and Koby Milner, Tyler Burton, Jordan and Chris Opolka each went 2-for-4 for Shadow Ridge.

Legacy’s Donta Williams was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs. Austin Michals and Alex Tadd each went 1-for-3 with two RBIs for the Longhorns.

Tech 9, Valley 5 — At Valley, Rylee Campbell induced a groundout and a double play in the bottom of the seventh inning to preserve the Roadrunners win over the Vikings.

The Vikings came into the bottom of seventh trailing 9-2, but Roadrunners starter Trevor Kephart ran into trouble and was pulled after allowing three runs.

Campbell came into the game with runners on second and third. The first batter he faced grounded out to first, and the second batter hit the ball back to Campbell, who threw to first base for the second out of the inning. The runner on third tried to score on the play and was thrown out at home.

Zach West went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs for the Roadrunners. Jayce Otis went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Tech.

Isaiah Cardenas went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs for the Vikings.

Bishop Gorman 12, Carson 3 — At Gorman, Brandon Wulff was 4-for-4 with a home run, three doubles, four runs and six RBIs as the Gaels topped the Senators in the Desert Classic.

Austin Cram was 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs, and Jordan Sadovia went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Gorman, which trailed 2-1 after one inning.

Vauxhall (Canada) 5, Bishop Gorman 1 — At the College of Southern Nevada, Vauxhall limited the Gaels to four hits to earn the win in the Desert Classic.

Vauxhall plated two runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 2-1 lead and tacked on three runs in the sixth.

Grant Robbins had two hits for Gorman, which dropped its first game of the season.

Basic 10, Eldorado 0 — At Eldorado, Logan Green went 3-for-3 with a triple, three runs and three RBIs as the Wolves routed the Sundevils in six innings.

David Huddleson was 3-for-3 with a double, a run and two RBIs, and Jack Wold went 3-for-4 with two runs for Basic. Tanner Roundy was 2-for-2 for the Wolves.

Ryne Nelson and Justin Caputo combined on a one-hitter for Basic.

Cheyenne 4, Mojave 2 — At Cheyenne, James Cummings threw a six-hitter and went 2-for-3 to lead the Desert Shields over the Rattlers.

George Carmona was 2-for-3 with a run for Cheyenne, which scored three runs in the fourth to break a 1-1 tie.

Andrew Foley went 2-for-4 for Mojave.

Las Vegas 9, Boulder City 2 — At Boulder City, Antonio Gaxiola was 4-for-5 with two RBIs to lead the Wildcats over the Eagles.

Parker Lowe went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Las Vegas, and teammate Diego Delgado was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Trey Chauncey settled in after giving up two runs in the first. He allowed seven hits over six innings to get the win.

Preston Van Diest was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Boulder City.

Lincoln County 10-14, Agassi Prep 0-4 — At Panaca, McClain O’Connor fired a no-hitter in the first game and drove in six runs in the nightcap as the Lynx swept the Stars.

O’Connor struck out nine and walked one in the five-inning win in the opener. O’Connor and Christian Florence each went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs in that game.

In the second game, O’Connor was 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, six RBIs and two runs to lead the Lynx.

Cody Thornock was 3-for-4 with a double and four runs, and Florence went 2-for-3 with a run and three RBIs.

Derek Shumway threw three hitless innings of relief, striking out four, to get the win in the nightcap.

Needles 7-11, The Meadows 11-1 — At Needles, Calif., Benny Robinson tossed a six-inning four-hitter in the nightcap to allow Needles to earn a split with The Meadows.

Devin Darrow went 3-for-3 with a triple, a double and four RBIs in the second game for Needles.

Jacob Gleason had two hits in each game for The Meadows.

White Pine 6-16, Lake Mead 3-6 — At Ely, Nathan Laity homered and drove in three runs in the six-inning nightcap as the Bobcats swept the Eagles.

Kade Britton tossed a six-hitter and struck out nine in the opener for White Pine, and teammate Colton Britton threw a four-hitter and fanned five in the second game.

Hunter Harris had two hits in each game for Lake Mead.

Laughlin 12-14, Calvary Chapel 10-5 — At Paul Meyer Park, Codi Abbati belted a grand slam in the opener and tossed a six-hitter with 11 strikeouts in the nightcap as the Cougars swept the Lions.

Abbati also got the final out of the first game to pick up a save for Laughlin, which got two hits from Andew Estes in the finale.

Christian O’Kelley and Alec Neider each had five hits in the doubleheader for Calvary Chapel.

Sandy Valley 1-12, Beaver Dam 12-2 — At Sandy Valley, the Sidewinders used a five-run second inning in the nightcap to split a pair of five-inning games with the Diamondbacks.

Clark 7, Western 0 — At Western, the Chargers beat the Warriors by forfeit.
