BASEBALL: Mountain Lions use fourth inning to edge Wildcats

Cade Burdett’s two-out, two-run single keyed a three-run fourth inning on Friday and helped Sierra Vista’s baseball team edge visiting Las Vegas, 4-2.

Clayton Hobart tossed a six-hitter, walking three and striking out three, for the Mountain Lions.

Shadow Ridge 6, Cimarron-Memorial 0 — At Shadow Ridge, Jake Wilson tossed a seven-hitter and struck out five as the Mustangs blanked the Spartans.

Jordan Johnson was 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI, and Jordan Hand went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs for Shadow Ridge, which scored three runs in the first inning on five walks and a sacrifice fly.

Trevor Lippard was 2-for-3 with a double, and Micquel Robinson was 2-for-3 for Cimarron.

Desert Oasis 4, Basic 1 — At Basic, A.J. Landis tossed a four-hitter and struck out seven to lead the Diamondbacks by the Wolves.

Chris Van Kuren was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Dominic Paratore was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Desert Oasis.

Liberty 6, Palo Verde 4 — At Palo Verde, the Patriots held off a late rally to beat the Panthers.

Jesse Keiser went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead Liberty, and teammate Jay Martz went 2-for-3.

Yodai Nakamura went 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead Palo Verde, which scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to get close. Teammate Sam Powers went 2-for-3.

Durango 6, Cheyenne 4 — At Durango, Vince Lombardi doubled and drove in two runs as the Trailblazers rallied from a 4-0 deficit to down the Desert Shields.

Anthony Parry also doubled and drove in a run for Durango.

Brian Corder had a double and an RBI for the Desert Shields.

Valley 16, Western 1 — At Western, Alonso Osorio-Kalawe went 2-for-4 with a home run, and Bryce Cowin tossed a five-inning three-hitter to guide the Vikings by the Warriors.

Jacob Cruz went 3-for-4, and Roberto Beltran-Aleman was 3-for-5 for Valley, which got 2-for-4 efforts from Logan Corona and Jared Limbeck.

Legacy 6, Chaparral 2 — At Legacy, winning pitcher Donta Williams went 2-for-3 with a triple and tossed an eight-hitter with eight strikeouts to lead the Longhorns by the Cowboys.

Aaron Trifunac went 3-for-3 with two RBIs for Legacy.

Tommy Crone went 2-for-3 to lead Chaparral.

Foothill 8, Silverado 3 — At Silverado, Nick Cardinale doubled, tripled and drove in three runs as the Falcons downed the Skyhawks.

Nick Kawano and Vincent Taormina each went 2-for-4 for the Skyhawks.

Boulder City 5, Eldorado 1 — At Boulder City, Mario Castanon threw six shutout innings to lead the Eagles over the Sundevils.

Castanon allowed three hits, walked one and struck out 10.

Austin Wishard was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Peyton Koopman went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for Boulder City.

Mojave 4, Canyon Springs 3 — At Canyon Springs, Tyson Goodrich went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs to help the Rattlers edge the Pioneers.

Alex Smith struck out nine in tossing a six-hitter for Mojave.

Alex Molina went 2-for-3 with a double to lead Canyon Springs.

Pahrump Valley 8, Del Sol 4 — At Pahrump, Dylan Ault went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and Josh Mortenson was 4-for-4 with a triple and three runs to lead the Trojans over the Dragons.

Chad Uyeno added a home run and two RBIs for Pahrump.

Lincoln County 12-2, Needles 5-1 — At Panaca, Zach Shinkle doubled home Nick Vincent to score the winning run with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning of the nightcap to help the Lynx sweep the Mustangs.

Colton Johnson tossed a three-hitter in the nightcap, striking out 10.

In the opener, Shinkle drove in two runs to help the Lynx run away.

Needles’ William Dunn was 1-for-3 with an RBI in the first game.

Tonopah 20-12, Beatty 0-1 — At Beatty, Connor Friel struck out nine in the opener as the Muckers swept the Hornets.

Ian Guthridge fanned four in the nightcap for Tonopah.

Indian Springs 11, Beaver Dam (Ariz.) 1 — At Indian Springs, Mason Hamlin had two doubles to help the Thunderbirds roll past the Diamondbacks.
