BLAZER BASH: Porter’s slam keys Palo Verde rally

Blake Porter’s grand slam with two outs in the top of the seventh inning Monday keyed a seven-run uprising that helped Palo Verde’s baseball team to an 8-4 win over Carson (California) in the Blazer Spring Bash at Centennial.

Trailing 4-1, the Panthers started the seventh with a double by Sam Powers. Mitchell Rathbun drew a walk.

Two outs later, Jaxon Hammond walked to load the bases for Porter, who homered to center field to give Palo Verde a 5-4 lead.

Cobi Fiechtner followed with a homer to right, and after J.D. Brooks and Ryan Merino both reached on errors, Powers ripped a two-run double to center to up the lead to 8-4.

Powers went 3-for-4 with the two doubles, and Fiechtner went 2-for-4 for the Panthers.

Ja’Craron Bellinger was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for the Colts.

Palo Verde 18, Birmingham (Calif.) 7 — At Centennial, Hammond went 2-for-3 with a home run, a triple and four RBIs, and the Panthers used a 13-run second inning to defeat the Patriots in five innings.

Brooks was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Dylan Orlando went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Palo Verde, which got hits from 10 players.

Centennial 7, Carson (Calif.) 1 — At Centennial, Kyle Horton’s grand slam capped a seven-run second inning that lifted the Bulldogs by the Colts.

Frank Sessa was 3-for-4 for Centennial.

Trevor Edior went 2-for-3 for Carson.

Arbor View 10, Cheyenne Mountain (Colo.) 0 — At Durango, Chris Villarias threw a two-hitter and struck out 10 as the Aggies routed the Indians in six innings.

Nick Quintana was 3-for-4 with a triple, a double and two runs, and Trevor Jackson had a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first inning for Arbor View, which got a three-run home run from Brandon Stevens.

Arbor View 12, Rock Canyon (Colo.) 11 — At Durango, Dylan Anderson’s pinch-hit two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning plated Ryan McHale and Stevens with the tying and winning runs as the Aggies nipped the Jaguars in six innings.

Joe Fitzhugh led off the bottom of the sixth with a home run to cut Rock Canyon’s lead to 11-10. McHale tripled, and Stevens reached on a dropped third strike to put runners at the corners.

Following an intentional walk that loaded the bases, Anderson singled to score the two runs.

Fitzhugh was 3-for-4 with two homers and three RBIs, and Quintana went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs for Arbor View. McHale was 2-for-3, and Logan Santos went 2-for-3 with a double.

Boulder City 6, Rim of the World (Calif.) 4 — At Las Vegas, Jacob Hubel went 2-for-3 with an RBI as the Eagles downed the Fighting Scots.

Aaron Kehoe was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Peyton Koopman was 1-for-4 with two RBIs for Boulder City.

Deagan Risnes was 3-for-4 with two doubles for Rim of the World.

Rim of the World (Calif.) 10, Las Vegas 3 — At Las Vegas, Cody O’Kelly went 3-for-5 with a triple, a double and three RBIs to lead the Fighting Scots over the Wildcats.

Ben Bowen had a double, a single and an RBI for Las Vegas.

Las Vegas 15, Sylmar (Calif.) 4 — At Las Vegas, Hector Perez went 4-for-5 with two doubles and five RBIs, and the Wildcats used a seven-run first inning to rout the Spartans in six innings.

Jason Herrera had three hits, and Trey Chauncey added a two-run homer for Las Vegas.

Christian Ruiz had two doubles for Sylmar.

Shadow Ridge 14, Poly (Calif.) 2 — At Shadow Ridge, Eric Jordan went 2-for-2 with a home run, a triple, three runs and three RBIs as the Mustangs topped the Parrots in six innings.

Koby Millner was 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs, and Kyle Gaura went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Shadow Ridge. Justin Lee was 1-for-1 with a double and four RBIs for the Mustangs.

John Lopez was 2-for-2 with a double for Poly.

Faith Lutheran 11, Verdugo Hills (Calif.) 2 — At Shadow Ridge, Zack Trageton had four hits and six RBIs as the Crusaders defeated the Dons.

Robby Schwartz and Liam Breded added two hits apiece for Faith Lutheran.

Josh Brown tossed a six-hitter and struck out four for the Crusaders.

Poly (Calif.) 5, Faith Lutheran 3 — At Shadow Ridge, Omar Bugarin had two hits as the Parrots built a 5-0 lead in third inning and held off the Crusaders.

Schwartz had two hits for Faith Lutheran.

San Fernando (Calif.) 6, Sierra Vista 2 — At Sierra Vista, Jason Ceja tossed a six-hitter as the Tigers defeated the Mountain Lions.

Steven Villagran had two hits and two RBIs for San Fernando.

Blake Kaplan had two hits and an RBI for Sierra Vista.

Centennial (Calif.) 11, Sierra Vista 1 — At Sierra Vista, Nate Ortiz had three hits and two RBIs to help the Golden Hawks top the Mountain Lions in six innings.

Ortiz and Andre Martinez combined on a four-hitter.

Liberty 12, San Fernando (Calif.) 4 — At Sierra Vista, Justin Lutes went 4-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs as the Patriots defeated the Tigers.

Daniel Gonzalez was 2-for-4 with four RBIs, and Jacob Klein had three RBIs for Liberty.

Liberty 15, San Pedro (Calif.) 5 — At Sierra Vista, Jayzen Ramirez was 3-for-5 with a double and four RBIs to help the Patriots rout the Pirates in six innings.

Jacob Rodgers went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Lutes was 1-for-2 with two RBIs for Liberty.

Foothill 7, Liberty (Calif.) 4 — At Cimarron-Memorial, Shay Landers went 4-for-4 with a triple, two runs and two RBIs to help the Falcons defeat the Patriots.

Anthony Pannullo was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Kelton Lachelt had a double and three runs for Foothill.

Easton McMurray went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and teammate Nick Proffitt had a home run and two RBIs for Liberty.

Liberty (Calif.) 10, Cimarron-Memorial 4 — At Cimarron, Zach Williams went 4-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs to lift the Patriots by the Spartans.

Matt Anderson went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs for Liberty.

Alexander Marco had a double and two RBIs for Cimarron.

Cimarron-Memorial 8, Banning (Calif.) 5 — At Cimarron, Trevor Doyle was 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs, and the Spartans used a five-run sixth inning to rally by the Pilots.

Marco’s double with one out in the sixth inning plated Doyle and Noah Loeffler with the tying and go-ahead runs for Cimarron.

Marco was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for Cimarron.

Independence (Calif.) 5, Durango 1 — At Durango, winning pitcher Tyler Smith hit a home run to lead the Falcons over the Trailblazers.
