NOTES: Meimerstorf fifth Gorman baseball player to gain Gatorade honor

Bishop Gorman outfielder Kenny Meimerstorf was selected as the Gatorade Nevada Baseball Player of the Year.

The Arizona signee batted .427 with 15 home runs, 46 RBIs and 54 runs to help lead Gorman (33-9-1) to the Division I state final. Meimerstorf also helped the Gaels to three state championships as a four-year starter.

Meimerstorf is the fifth Gorman baseball player to receive the honor, which recognizes one athlete from each state who has displayed exemplary character on and off the field. He joins Joey Gallo, Jeff Malm and Taylor Cole as recent Gaels to be honored with the award.

GOLF HONORS — Region coaches selected Foothill’s Taylor Montgomery as the Sunrise Player of the Year and Palo Verde’s Brandon Bauman as the Sunset Player of the Year.

Montgomery, a UNLV signee, captured the Division I state title on May 15 at Sierra Sage Golf Course in Reno. The senior also won his third Sunrise Region tournament championship at Mountain Falls Golf Club. Bauman won the Sunset Region tournament title and placed fifth at the state tournament.

Montgomery and Bauman are joined on the All-Southern Nevada team by Shadow Ridge’s Ben Davis, Green Valley’s Blaise McComb, Foothill’s Andrew Chu, Bishop Gorman’s Frank Frisbee, Coronado’s Brad Keyer and Matt Welch, Bonanza’s Alex Jordan and Arbor View’s Sam Dickey.
