Quintana leads Southern Nevada to victory in Kelley Baseball Showcase

The Southern Nevada underclassmen scored five runs in the first inning and four more in the third on the way to a 13-5 rout of their Northern Nevada counterparts in the 13th Kelley Baseball Showcase at the College of Southern Nevada on Friday night.

Arbor View’s Zachary Quintana went 2-for-3 with four RBIs on his way to Most Valuable Player honors for Southern Nevada.

Rancho’s Brandon Pletsch had two hits, including an RBI triple in the first inning, and Bishop Gorman’s Erik Van Meetren and Arbor View’s Jordan Godman added two hits each for Southern Nevada.

The game was played with wood bats and relaxed rules, with the host Southern Nevada team allowed to bat with a 12-5 lead in the bottom of the ninth.

The showcase is designed to give underclassmen a look in front of college and professsional scouts.
