ROUNDUP: Benson’s late double allows Desert Shields to slip past Longhorns

Freshman Gage Benson had a two-run double with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to give Cheyenne’s baseball team a 9-8 home win over Legacy on Friday.

Benson was 2-for-4 with two doubles for Cheyenne, which trailed 8-6 entering the bottom of the seventh.

Andrew Graham went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs for Cheyenne.

Brayden Torres was 3-for-4 for the Longhorns, who scored twice in the top of the seventh to take the lead.

Desert Pines 19, Sunrise Mountain 13 — At Sunrise Mountain, the Jaguars scored six runs in the top of the eighth to top the Miners.

Adam Leclere and Camilo Murillo each went 2-for-5 with four runs and three RBIs, and winning pitcher Roberto Hernandez was 2-for-3 with three RBIs for Desert Pines, which rallied for five runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game.

Daniel Guardado drove in three runs for Sunrise Mountain, which led 11-0 after three innings.

Green Valley 20, Liberty 6 — At Liberty, Evan Van Hoosier went 4-for-4 with a home run, a triple and five RBIs to help the Gators rout the Patriots in five innings.

Phillip McGovern went 4-for-5 to help Green Valley, which put the game away with 11 runs in the fifth inning. Teammate Alec Hutt was 3-for-5.

Josh McCollum had two doubles and two RBIs to lead Liberty.

Palo Verde 7, Arbor View 3 — At Palo Verde, Jordan Benson went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a double to lead the Panthers past the Aggies.

Mark Marinch tossed a six-hitter with five strikeouts to earn the victory for Palo Verde, which broke the game open with six runs in the second inning.

Silverado 13, Foothill 7 — At Foothill, Trevor Johnson was 3-for-5 with a home run to help the Skyhawks down the Falcons.

Mike Meyers added a double and a home run, and Josh Bravin had two singles for Silverado, which jumped ahead with five runs in the first inning.

Gabriel Soto went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs to lead Foothill.

Coronado 13, Del Sol 7 — At Del Sol, Chris Blake was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Tyler Brown drove in three runs as the Cougars outslugged the Dragons.

Dillon Fahr tripled and Taylor Giordano doubled for Coronado, which got two hits and an RBI from Chris Johnson, and two RBIs from Steven Pollex. Chandler Blanchard earned a win and Chad Scott supplied a save for the Cougars.

Andrew Curfman, Luis Grullon and Dylan Greer each had two hits for Del Sol, and David Day hit a home run for the Dragons.

Faith Lutheran 18, Shadow Ridge 8 — At Faith Lutheran, Blake Matthias belted two home runs to power the Crusaders past the Mustangs in five innings.

Mathias finished 4-for-4 with two doubles, eight RBIs and three runs for Faith Lutheran, and teammate Josh Murtha was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs.

Troy Williams went 2-for-3 with a double for Shadow Ridge, which notched 12 hits.

Eldorado 14, Valley 3 — At Valley, Lucio Arreola went 4-for-5 with a home run, a double and three RBIs to lead the Sundevils to a victory over the Vikings in six innings.

Lupe Gonzales was 3-for-4 with two RBIs to help Eldorado, which finished with 16 hits. Teammates Eric Larsen, Nelson Herrera and Johnny Wade each added two hits.

Chaparral 11, Canyon Springs 0 — At Chaparral, Garrett Munoz pitched a three-hitter and went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs for the Cowboys routed the Pioneers in five innings.

Steven Colon started the game off with a solo home run and finished 2-for-3 with an RBI for Chaparral.

Basic 16, Tech 1 — At Tech, Dean Gettman went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and three RBIs as the Wolves routed the Roadrunners.

Matt Dembinski added a double and a triple for Basic, which scored six runs in the third.

Cimarron-Memorial 22, Mojave 5 — At Mojave, A.J. Hernanez and Travis Hendry each went 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs to help the Spartans to a five-inning rout.

Nathan Hale was 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs, and Drew Danzeisen had a solo homer for Cimarron.

Carlos Romo was 2-for-3 with a run for Mojave.

Virgin Valley 1-8, Boulder City 5-5 — At Boulder City, the Eagles and the Bulldogs split a doubleheader.

Cameron Jensen and Daniel Gleave each went 3-for-7 to lead Virgin Valley.

Jack LaMarca went 5-for-7 with two doubles for Boulder City.

Indian Springs 12-18, Trinity 2-3 — At Rivera Field, Adam Reinke pitched a five-inning two-hitter with 10 strikeouts in the nightcap and went a combined 4-for-7 with a triple and three doubles as the Thunderbirds swept the Thunder.

Chasen Malden was 7-for-8 with five runs in the two games for Indian Springs.

Damen Cook went a combined 3-for-5 for Trinity, and teammate Avery Harden notched a pair of doubles in the first game.

Laughlin 24-22, Lake Mead 0-1 — At River Mountain Park, Andre Prosise was a combined 3-for-3 with six runs and five RBIs as the Cougars swept the Eagles.

Prosise struck out 11 in four innings in the first game, allowing no hits and two walks.

Laughlin’s Corey Beggs went a combined 4-for-8 with six RBIs, and threw a five-inning three-hitter with eight strikeouts in the nightcap.

Mountain View 10-11, Calvary Chapel 2-4 — At Paul Meyer Park, the Saints limited the Lions to seven hits in the sweep.

Alex Capozzoli threw a three-hitter with 14 strikeouts in the first game.

Capozzoli also scored three runs, and teammate Korey Wood went 2-for-4 with four RBIs.

In the second game, Trevor Van Kempen threw four perfect innings of relief with nine strikeouts to pick up the victory.

Van Kempen also went 2-for-3 with a double, a homer and five RBIs for the Saints, who had only four hits in the game.

Steven Shigley hit a three-run homer for the Lions.

Needles 22-2, The Meadows 8-4 — At Needles, Garrett Gosse hit a three-run home run in the first inning of the nightcap and pitched a complete game to help The Meadows salvage a split with Needles.
