ROUNDUP: Colon’s slam helps Cowboys clinch playoff spot

Steven Colon’s grand slam keyed a seven-run fourth inning Thursday as Chaparral’s baseball team clinched a berth in the Sunrise Region playoffs with a 14-1, five-inning win at Canyon Springs.
Ciros Burdier went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, and Chris Monroe was 3-for-3 with two RBIs for Chaparral.
Eldorado 9, Valley 8 — At Eldorado, Sammy Gonzales hit a two-out double down the right-field line in the bottom of the seventh to score Isaiah Hernandez and give the Sundevils the victory over the Vikings.
Hernandez led off the inning with a walk, but the next two batters struck out before Trey Bayliss singled to extend the inning.
Gonzales was 2-for-5 with two RBIs, Bayliss went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, and Lucio Arreola was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI for Eldorado.
Desert Pines 18, Sunrise Mountain 8 — At Desert Pines, Roberto Hernandez was 4-for-5 with a home run, a double and four RBIs to lead the Jaguars in a rout of the Miners.
Camilo Murillo went 3-for-5 with two doubles for Desert Pines, and Amador Rivera and Saul Navarrete each added three hits.
Green Valley 7, Liberty 2 — At Green Valley, Alec Hutt’s two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning started a six-run uprising that rallied the Gators past the Patriots.
With the Gators trailing 2-1, Gabe Douglas led off the bottom of the sixth with a walk. Brett Harrison singled, and Chad Whiteaker’s bunt single loaded the bases for Hutt, who delivered the tying and go-ahead runs.
Phillip McGovern homered and singled for Green Valley.
Jake DiDonato tossed a four-hitter and struck out nine for the Gators.
Foothill 12, Silverado 4 — At Silverado, Anthony Lopez went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI as the Falcons downed the Skyhawks.
Tyler Morris was 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI for the Falcons, who had 17 hits.
Trevor Johnson went 3-for-4 with a double for Silverado, which used six different pitchers in the game.
Basic 10, Tech 3 — At Basic, Andrew Chaves went 2-for-3 with two home runs and five RBIs as the Wolves beat the Roadrunners.
Basic’s Brien Grant pitched a four-hitter with two strikeouts.
Coronado 8, Del Sol 4 — At Coronado, Chris Blake was 2-for-3 with an RBI as the Cougars topped the Dragons.
Zane Korth went 2-for-3 with a double for Coronado.
Del Sol’s Justin Chronister was 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs.
Sierra Vista 12, Durango 2 — At Sierra Vista, Scott Tomassetti was 2-for-2 with a home run, a double and four RBIs, and the Mountain Lions exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning on their way to a five-inning rout of the Trailblazers.
Aramando Perez was 3-for-3 with two RBIs, and Jake Hager went 2-for-3 with a double for Sierra Vista, which also got two hits from Billy Santiwan.
Cameron Coombs belted a solo homer for Durango.

The Meadows 13-12, Mountain View 2-2 — 
At The Meadows, Brandon Thomas went 3-for-3 with a home run, three runs and two RBIs in the opener, and Garrett Gosse tossed a four-hitter and struck out 10 in the nightcap as the Mustangs clinched at least a share of the Class 2A Southern League title by sweeping the Saints.
Gosse was 3-for-3 and scored three runs in the first game and went 2-for-4 with the game-ending RBI in the finale. Justin Diamond was 3-for-3 with two doubles and four RBIs in the second game for The Meadows.
In the nightcap, Dylan Sebron was 2-for-2 with a triple, and T.J. Engel went 2-for-2 with a double for Mountain View.
Tonopah 16-12, Sandy Valley 1-2 — At Sandy Valley, Emitt Davis went a combined 5-for-5 with two home runs and eight RBIs as the Muckers swept the Sidewinders.
Tonopah’s Taylor McLauchlin pitched a five-inning two-hitter with seven strikeouts in the first game, and was 2-for-4 with five RBIs on the day.
