ROUNDUP: Sixth-inning run dooms Gaels in title game loss

Spanish Fork (Utah) rallied for a run in the top of the sixth to edge Bishop Gorman’s baseball team, 3-2 in the championship game of the Big League Dugout Invitational in Phoenix.

A.J. Van Meetren went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Gorman, which scored twice in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game.

Gorman’s Billy Richardson pitched 4 1/3 innings of one-hit relief, but yielded the run in the sixth to take the loss. Richardson struck out eight and walked none.

Bishop Gorman 5, Corona Del Sol (Ariz.) 2 — At Phoenix, Joey Gallo and Erik Van Meetren each had a home run to lead the Gaels to the win.

Kenny Meimerstorf was 2-for-2 with an RBI for Gorman. Evan Dunn went the distance, allowing four hits and striking out seven, to get the win.

Las Vegas 10, Chaparral 0 — At Las Vegas, Erick Fedde and Dillon Dove combined on a no-hitter as the Wildcats blanked the Cowboys in five innings.

Fedde had nine strikeouts over four innings and was 2-for-3 with a double at the plate for Las Vegas.

Brady Page went 3-for-3 with a triple, Tanner Chauncey supplied two hits and three RBIs, and Jesse Acosta and Xavier Palmer each added two RBIs for the Wildcats.

Silverado 12, Del Sol 5 — At Del Sol, Wyatt Reid went 3-for-4 with a run and four RBIs, Dylan Cross was 3-for-4 with a triple, and Mark Janosik doubled twice to lead the Skyhawks past the Dragons.

Mike Meyers earned the win and had a triple, and Josh Bravin doubled for Silverado, which used a six-run seventh inning to pull away.

Andrew Curfman went 3-for-4 with a double and a triple for Del Sol, and Dylan Greer was 3-for-3 with three runs and an RBI.

Green Valley 13, Coronado 1 — At Coronado, Cooper Manwarren went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Chad Whiteaker hit a three-run homer as the Gators routed the Cougars in five innings.

Green Valley’s Alec Hutt pitched a four-hitter with six strikeouts.

Liberty 10, Basic 1 — At Basic, Teddy Efthemeou was 2-for-4 with a double and a solo home run to help the Patriots cruise past the Wolves.

Michael Vargas was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Liberty, which had 15 hits.

Valley 14, Desert Pines 4 — At Desert Pines, winning pitcher Eric Herring went 4-for-4 with three RBIs to help the Vikings defeat the Jaguars.

Richie Sandoval went 3-for-4 with an RBI for Valley.

Foothill 13, Tech 0 — At Foothill, the Falcons scored eight runs in the fourth inning to seal a five-inning win over the Roadrunners.

Brandon Van Stone and Jansen Ness each went 2-for-2 to lead Foothill.

Rancho 19, Sunrise Mountain 0 — At Rancho, the Rams belted eight doubles on the way to a five-inning victory over the Miners.

Brandon Pletsch went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs to lead Rancho. Zak Qualls, Gabe Chavira, Kevin Kline and Eric Holdren each added two hits for the Rams.

Eldorado 22, Canyon Springs 0 — At Eldorado, Eric Larsen and Lucio Arreola each went 3-for-4 with a triple to help the Sundevils roll the Pioneers in five innings.

Nelson Herrera, Isaiah Hernandez and Sammy Gonzales each added two hits for Eldorado, which broke the game open with 14 runs in the second inning.
