SMALL SCHOOLS: Eagles rally to beat Virgin Valley; teams to meet again in final

Boulder City’s Billy Barth singled with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning Friday to complete the Eagles’  comeback for a 5-4 victory over Virgin Valley in the Class 3A Southern League baseball tournament in Overton.
Boulder City (15-11) trailed 4-0 after five innings but got seven of its 10 hits in the final two innings to rally.
The Eagles scored twice in the sixth, then the bottom of their order started the seventh-inning rally with three consecutive hits.
Corbett Fleming’s two-run double tied the game and set the stage for Barth, who had two strikes before delivering the winning hit.
Boulder City’s Nick Morelli was 3-for-4 with a run.
The Eagles play Virgin Valley (16-16) again in the championship round at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Should the Bulldogs win, a second game would be played to determine the champion.
Virgin Valley 5, Moapa Valley 4 — At Overton, Cody Faught singled home Nolan Tanner with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning to send the Bulldogs past the Pirates (8-18) in the losers’ bracket final.
Virgin Valley’s Daniel Gleave scattered six hits in a complete game with seven strikeouts.
Tanner and Brandt Eaton both went 2-for-4 for the Bulldogs.
Moapa Valley’s Dylan Mortensen went 2-for-4.
Virgin Valley 8, Moapa Valley 4 — At Overton, Eaton was 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs as the Bulldogs beat the Pirates in a first-round game.
Virgin Valley’s Tanner Tichenor and Austin Gazlay had two hits each.
Josh Repp was 2-for-4 for Moapa Valley, and Lane Stringham had two RBIs.
CLASS 2A
The Meadows 14, Lincoln County 4 — At Needles, Calif., the Mustangs (24-4-1) bounced back after losing earlier Friday to eliminate the Lynx (18-7-1).
In its first game Friday, The Meadows lost 22-5 to Needles.
Those schools will meet again at 10 a.m. Saturday in the championship round. The Meadows would have to defeat Needles twice to claim the title.
CLASS 1A
Pahranagat Valley 13, Tonopah 3 — At Alamo, Tyler Higbee went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, two runs and three RBIs and was the winning pitcher to lead the Panthers (21-3) past the Muckers (16-14) in five innings in the Class 1A Southern Region tournament.
Pahranagat Valley plays Beatty at 10 a.m. Saturday for the title. The Hornets would have to win twice to capture the title.
Derek Hansen was 2-for-2 with three runs and three RBIs for Pahranagat Valley, and Chase Hansen went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Tonopah’s Seth Littlefield and Julian Hirsch each had two hits.
