BASKETBALL: Silas’ three-point play lifts Chaparral boys past Warriors

Marc Silas’ three-point play with 19 seconds left in the game Wednesday lifted Chaparral’s boys basketball team to a 49-48 win at Western.

Tyree McNeal had 19 points for the Cowboys, who trailed 37-36 entering the fourth quarter.

Deaven Klepek had 15 points, and Wyatt Rozea added 10 for the Warriors.

Centennial 85, Coronado 74 — At Coronado, Khalil Thompson and Troy Brown each scored 18 points to lift the Bulldogs over the Cougars.

Garett Scheer had 12 points, and Eddie Davis supplied 10 points for Centennial.

Eddie Austin led Coronado with 18 points. Austin Morgan added 17 points, and Jake DesJardins scored 10 for the Cougars.

Shadow Ridge 63, Moapa Valley 60 — At Overton, Jordin Williams and Preston Echols each scored 14 points to lead the Mustangs by the Pirates.

Brian Freeman added 12 points, and Serph Decker scored 10 points for Shadow Ridge, which trailed 25-19 at halftime.

Andrew Huerta led all scorers with 22 points for Moapa Valley. Justin Hughes scored 13 points, and Bunker Wimer added 11 points for the Pirates.

Sandy Valley 45, Baker (Calif.) 25 — At Baker, Calif., Logan Shelton and Jason Deere each scored 15 points to lead the Sidewinders to victory.

James Rau added 11 points for Sandy Valley, which led 23-8 at the half.

GIRLS

Shadow Ridge 52, Moapa Valley 39 — At Shadow Ridge, Jadah Preston supplied 12 points and 12 rebounds to help lead the Mustangs to a win over the Pirates.

Jaylan Johnson scored 10 points for Shadow Ridge, which got 12 rebounds from Assana King.

Makendie Frei had 18 points to lead Moapa Valley.

Western 38, Chaparral 35 — At Western, Destiny Gonzalez scored 11 points, and Paea Savou supplied 10 points as the Warriors edged the Cowboys.

Western trailed 29-26 after three quarters, but outscored Chaparral 12-6 in the fourth.

Marcia Hawkins scored 15 points for Chaparral.

Fairmont Prep (Calif.) 71, Mountain View 4 — At Anaheim, Calif., Blaysen Varandoe poured in 18 points, and Samantha Clement scored 13 to lead the host school past the Saints in the Husky Invitational.
