ROUNDUP: Claxton helps Arbor View boys pull into tournament title game

Blake Claxton tallied 15 points Friday, and Arbor View’s boys basketball team held off a second-half rally by Westwood (Ariz.) en route to a 57-51 win in the semifinals of the Southwest Rotary Classic in Yuma, Ariz.

Terrell Butler had 12 points, and Justin Burks scored 11 for the Aggies, who led 33-15 at the half, but saw Westwood trim the margin to four points in the fourth quarter before Arbor View held on.

The Aggies will face Basha (Ariz.) for the tournament championship at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Arbor View 69, Gila Ridge (Ariz.) 30 — At Yuma, Ariz., Burks had 17 points, four rebounds and three steals as the Aggies routed the Hawks in the quarterfinals of the Southwest Rotary Classic.

Claxton added 10 points and seven rebounds for Arbor View.

Centennial 81, Lake Havasu (Ariz.) 57 — At Yuma, Ariz., Evan Martin had 17 points and 16 rebounds to help the Bulldogs advance to the semifinals of the Southwest Rotary Classic with a win over the Knights.

Marcus Allen scored 24 points, and Malcolm Allen drained three 3-pointers en route to 23 points for Centennial.

Trevor Evans led Lake Havasu with 13 points.

Basha (Ariz.) 69, Centennial 67 — At Yuma, Ariz., Torren Jones scored 26 points, and the Bears survived a potential game-winning half-court shot at the buzzer to defeat the Bulldogs in the semifinals of the Southwest Rotary Classic.

Centennial held a 60-51 lead with six minutes left before Basha, ranked No. 1 in Arizona’s Division I by the Arizona Republic, charged back to grab a four-point lead.

The Bulldogs pulled to within two and had a chance to win it on Malcolm Allen’s half-court shot at the buzzer. Allen’s try went in and came out three times before finally falling away.

Marcus Allen paced Centennial with 21 points, and Malcolm Allen scored 16. Neiman Lee tallied 12 points, and Dallin Layton grabbed 12 rebounds for the Bulldogs.

Cherry Creek (Colo.) 75, Valley 69 — At Valley, Matt Rattiner scored 24 points to help the Bruins edge the Vikings.

Caleb Carter had 15 points and eight rebounds to lead Valley, which led 37-35 at halftime.

Keanu Peters added 13 points for Valley, but Cherry Creek took over in the third quarter as the Vikings struggled from the free-throw line.

Basic 74, Enterprise (Utah) 57 — At Mesquite, Jalen Rose and Isaiah Villaros each scored 18 points to lead Basic past Enterprise in the Bulldog Invitational.

Basic grabbed a 41-21 halftime lead and cruised to the win.

Desert Oasis 81, White Pine 40 — At Mesquite, Taeler Bowen scored 17 points, and Anthony Lianzo had 12 of his 16 points in the first half to lead the Bulldogs past the Bobcats in the Bulldog Invitational.

Juliano Rosario added 15 points, and Noah Jefferson grabbed 16 rebounds for Desert Oasis, which led 48-16 at the half.

Jacob Ashby paced White Pine with 21 points.

Virgin Valley 62, Lincoln County 52 — At Mesquite, Nolan Tanner had 16 points and 10 rebounds, and the Bulldogs rallied from a 31-24 halftime deficit in the Bulldog Invitational.

Dee Bowler scored eight of his 14 points during a 25-6 run that put the Bulldogs ahead for good. Dillon Graves scored 10 points for Virgin Valley.

Ryan Rippetoe led the Lynx with 25 points, and teammate Chandler Katschke scored 14.

Lowry 63, Moapa Valley 54 — At Mesquite, Jesse Studebaker had 19 points to help the Buckaroos top the Pirates in the Bulldog Invitational.

Sean McConnell led Moapa Valley with 17 points, and teammate Shane Terril scored 16 points.

Agassi Prep 74, Sunrise Mountain 64 — At Sunrise Mountain, Kalinn Jackson scored 21 points, and the Stars used a 28-18 third-quarter run to pull away and down the Miners.

Anson Williams had 15 points, and Decari Lide added 10 points for Agassi Prep.

Jovan Kirtley scored 15 points, and teammate Stephan Nathan had 14 points for Sunrise Mountain.  

Faith Lutheran 64, South Tahoe 26 — At Minden, Chris Stroud scored 11 points to lead the Crusaders past the Vikings in the Carson Valley Classic.

Stewart Engs and John Molchon each added 10 points for Faith Lutheran, which led 25-11 at halftime.

Mountain View 62, Calexico (Calif.) 31 — At Yuma, Ariz., Joseph Guevarra drained a tournament record six 3-pointers and scored 22 points to lead the Saints past Calexico in the Southwest Rotary Classic.

Trevor Van Kempen added 18 points, half of those on 3-pointers, and Matt Larson scored 12 for Mountain View.

Yuma Catholic (Ariz.) 77, Mountain View 69 — At Yuma, Ariz., Matt Pistone’s 35 points helped the Shamrocks top the Saints in the Southwest Rotary Classic.

Larson tallied 22 points, and Van Kempen scored 21 points for Mountain View, which got 11 points from Adonis Morris.

Pahranagat Valley 67, Calvary Chapel 33 — At Alamo, Tyler Higbee scored 20 points to lead the Panthers past the Lions.

Derek Hansen had 17 points, and Ethan Simmers scored 10 for Pahranagat Valley, which outscored Calvary Chapel 29-8 in the second quarter.

Drew Hammond paced Calvary Chapel with 14 points.

Laughlin 59, Indian Springs 40 — At Indian Springs, Colton Hill led all scorers with 27 points, and the Cougars outscored the Thunderbirds 37-15 in the second half to secure the victory.

Dominic Morgando and Brock Roadhouse each scored 14 points to lead Indian Springs.

The Meadows 49, Beatty 18 — At The Meadows, Max Newman had 16 points to lead the Mustangs to an easy win over the Hornets.

The Meadows used a 22-6 run through the middle two quarters to put the game away.

Valley Christian (Ariz.) 68, Lake Mead 64 — At Gilbert, Ariz., Valley Christian held off a second-half rally to edge the Eagles in the Christian Cup.

Justin Yamzon scored 38 points, including seven 3-pointers, to lead Lake Mead.

Round Mountain 48, Tonopah 32 — At Tonopah, Serjio Chavez had 26 points and 16 defensive rebounds to help the Knights down the Muckers.
