ROUNDUP: Future Rebel Reinhardt helps Mater Dei top Gorman

UNLV signee Katin Reinhardt scored 23 points, and Mater Dei’s (Calif.) boys basketball team hit all 15 of its free-throw attempts Wednesday in a 79-69 win over Bishop Gorman in the fifth-place game of the City of Palms Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.

Mater Dei, ranked No. 6 nationally by USA Today, held the Gaels to seven second-quarter points en route to a 32-28 halftime lead.

Eli Stalzer added 15 points for the Monarchs, who got 14 points from Stanley Johnson and 11 points from Xavier Johnson.

Shabazz Muhammad paced Gorman (4-2) with 26 points and five assists. Noah Robotham added 11 points and five assists, and Rosco Allen scored 10 points for the Gaels, who again played without posts Ronnie Stanley and Ben Carter.

Stanley could return from an elbow injury for the Gaels’ next tournament — the Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C., which begins Tuesday. Carter remains out indefinitely with a foot injury.

Legacy 61, Patriot (Calif.) 48 — At Palm Springs, Calif, the Longhorns used a 13-4 run at the end of the game to polish off Patriot in the Palm Springs Winter Classic.

Lincoln County 56, Pahranagat Valley 44 — At Alamo, Ryan Rippetoe had 22 points, and Chandler Katschke scored 12 as the Lynx downed the Panthers.

Tyler Higbee led Pahranagat Valley with 21 points.

GIRLS

Centennial 70, Konawaena (Hawaii) 46 — At Phoenix, Jada Brown recorded 19 points and nine rebounds to help the Bulldogs top the Wildcats in the Nike Tournament of Champions.

Tamera Williams added 13 points, and Shannon Brown scored 10 for Centennial, which led 35-24 at the half. Breanna Workman grabbed 13 rebounds for the Bulldogs, who will face Bishop O’Dowd (Calif.) at 3 p.m. Thursday for ninth place in the John Anderson Division of the tournament.

Dawnyelle Awa had 16 points to lead Konawaena.

Bishop O’Dowd 75, Bishop Gorman 59 — At Phoenix, Kendall Waters pumped in 21 points, and the Dragons outscored the Gaels 44-26 in the middle two quarters en route to a win in the Nike Tournament of Champions.

April Rivers paced Gorman with 19 points. Ashlin Gross added 15 points, and Diamond Major scored 10 for the Gaels, who will face Konawaena at 1:30 p.m. Thursday for 11th place in the Anderson Division.
