ROUNDUP: Johnson, Gebretekle carry Del Sol boys to upset of Coronado

James Johnson scored 20 points, and Fekadue Gebretekle added 18 points Tuesday as Del Sol’s boys basketball team stunned host Coronado, 72-69.

The Dragons carried a 57-42 lead into the fourth quarter, but Coronado rallied to tie the game with two minutes left and had a chance to take the lead before faltering down the stretch.

David Day added 10 points for Del Sol (10-15, 5-8 Southeast).

Austin Nelson led Coronado (20-7, 11-2) with 35 points, and Adam Schmitt scored 10.

Foothill 53, Silverado 48 — At Silverado, Elijah Smith and Greg Cox each scored 12 points to help the Falcons slip past the Skyhawks.

David Ware had a game-high 17 points to pace Silverado, which used an 18-6 run in the second quarter to take a 27-26 halftime lead.

Foothill outscored Silverado, 18-13 in the fourth quarter to help the Falcons hold on for the win.

Green Valley 70, Liberty 60 — At Liberty, Earl Thompson and Kaika Pladera each scored 15 points as the Gators topped the Patriots.

Austin Tebbs added 14 points, Keiannte Wilkins scored 12, and Michael Thornton supplied 10 points for the Gators.

Aaron Navitsky had 22 points to lead Liberty. Jeremy Lagasca scored 11 and Kai Nacua 10 for the Patriots.

Basic 80, Tech 46 — At Basic, Jaylene Brown had 20 points, and Daniel Owens scored 18 to help the Wolves cruise past the Roadrunners.

Kyle Taitano added seven points, seven rebounds and seven assists, and Kevin Bayes grabbed 17 rebounds for Basic.

Manny Gonzalez led Tech with 15 points, and teammate Michael Johnson scored 12.

Virgin Valley 60, Boulder City 39 — At Mesquite, Daniel Gleave had 15 points and seven rebounds to help the Bulldogs top the Eagles.

Cameron Jensen added 13 points for Virgin Valley, which limited Boulder City to four points in each of the first two quarters.

Nate Hafen led the Eagles with 16 points.

Needles 66, Calvary Chapel 30 — At Calvary Chapel, Michael Hills had 15 points, and the Mustangs jumped out to a 35-12 halftime lead and cruised past the Lions.

Matt McAndrews and Aaron Burns each scored 14 for Needles.

Cody Taylor led Calvary Chapel with 12 points.

Laughlin 44, Lake Mead 34 — At Lake Mead, Daniel Mareki scored 12 points and Kris Suhr 11 as the Cougars pulled away from the Eagles.

Wesley Brule and Jordan Tillman each scored 12 to lead Lake Mead.

Beatty 62, Adelson School 29 — At Adelson, Ramiro Hernandez scored 14 points as the Hornets downed the Lions.

Anthony Turner added 13 points for Beatty, which jumped out to a 26-14 halftime lead.

Jackson Wessells paced Adelson with eight points. 

Spring Mountain 69, Indian Springs 32 — At Indian Springs, Jamarr Smith had 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Golden Eagles to an easy win over the Thunderbirds.

Devonte Rash added 14 points and 12 rebounds, and Shaquon Jones scored 10 for Spring Mountain.

Dominic Morgando led Indian Springs with 24 points.
