ROUNDUP: Muhammad, Gorman boys roll in Beach Ball rout

Shabazz Muhammad had 24 points and eight rebounds in only 16 minutes of action Tuesday as Bishop Gorman’s boys basketball team routed Rye (N.Y.), 81-33 in the opening round of the Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Gorman (5-2) used a 25-0 run in the first half to open up a 41-8 lead. The Gaels posted seven dunks in the first eight minutes and 12 dunks in the game.

Demetris Morant blocked six shots in the first half and finished with 11 points and seven blocks for the Gaels, who got 12 points from Rosco Allen.

The Gaels blocked 13 shots and had 12 steals against the Garnets.

Sixteen players saw at least four minutes of action for Gorman, including senior forward Ronnie Stanley, who played nine minutes in returning from an elbow injury that had kept him out of the team’s first six games.

Centennial 75, Fontana (Calif.) 46 — At San Bernardino, Calif., Evan Martin had 14 points and eight rebounds to lead the Bulldogs past Fontana in the opening round of the Kiwanis Tournament.

Malcolm Allen supplied 14 points, and Tanner Bonds added 10 points and eight rebounds for Centennial.

Cimarron-Memorial 80, Chino Valley (Ariz.) 28 — At Prescott Valley, Ariz., Erik Brewer had 17 points, and the Spartans stormed to leads of 31-7 after one quarter and 55-16 at the half on their way to an easy win in the opening game at the Alvarez Tire Classic.

Austin Garrison added 14 points, and Travon Patton scored 12 for Cimarron, which saw 11 players score.

Cimarron-Memorial 56, Catalina (Ariz.) 42 — At Prescott Valley, Ariz., Brewer had 19 points and eight rebounds, and the Spartans used a 19-6 third-quarter run to erase a 26-18 halftime deficit and roll to the win.

J.C. Broussard had 20 points for Cimarron, which committed only three turnovers.

Dorsey (Calif.) 60, Foothill 59 — At Palm Desert, Calif., Donald Muepo’s jumper with 34 seconds left lifted Dorsey past the Falcons.

Greg Cox had 20 points, and Brannon Cresanto added 10 points and three assists for Foothill.

West Valley (Calif.) 50, Boulder City 46 — At Menifee, Calif., West Valley rallied from a 35-33 deficit after three quarters to edge the Eagles in the Paloma Tournament.

Kaleb Bailey paced Boulder City with 13 points. Nate Hafen added eight points and eight rebounds for the Eagles.

Green Valley 81, Sweetwater (Calif.) 74 — At Palm Desert, Calif., Lorenzo Jarvis scored 21 points and Devan Kohn had 16 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Gators to the win at the Desert Heat Classic.

Durrell McDonald added 17 points for Green Valley.
