ROUNDUP: Thompson helps Pioneer boys overcome slow start for win in Holiday Classic

Michael Thompson had 21 points and six rebounds Monday as Canyon Springs’ boys basketball team stormed back from a 15-point first-quarter deficit to down Eisenhower (Calif.), 88-77 in the Holiday Classic in Carlsbad, Calif.

Jared Brandon added 19 points and eight rebounds for the Pioneers, who rallied to tie the game at 44 at halftime and used a 25-11 third-quarter run to take control.

Chris Willis had 15 points and nine rebounds, and Donald Anderson chipped in 13 points and eight assists for Canyon Springs. Trey Evans supplied 11 points for the Pioneers.

Bernard Ireland led Eisenhower with 21 points.

Coronado 69, Rancho Bernardo (Calif.) 52 — At San Diego, Austin Nelson had 26 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds to lead the Cougars past the Broncos in the MaxPreps Holiday Tournament.

Adam Schmitt had 19 points and 11 rebounds for Coronado, and Drew Badillo scored 11 for the Cougars.

Bishop Gorman 93, Hillsboro (Ore.) 50 — At Hillsboro, Ore., Shabazz Muhammad had 26 points and eight rebounds, and the Gaels blitzed to a 53-16 halftime lead and cruised past Hillsboro in the Les Schwab Invitational.

Ryan Parks added 12 points, and Rosco Allen supplied eight points and eight rebounds for Gorman.

The Gaels’ Demetris Morant won the tournament’s dunk contest, punctuating it with a leaping jam over three people.

Cimarron-Memorial 64, Bradshaw Mountain (Ariz.) 52 — At Prescott Valley, Ariz., Deijon Spillers supplied 13 points and 10 rebounds as the Spartans opened the Alvarez Tire Holiday Classic with a win over the host school.

Rico Garrett scored 14 points, and Erik Brewer added 11 points for the Spartans, who used a 22-11 first-quarter run to take command.

Cimarron-Memorial 65, Payson (Ariz.) 30 — At Prescott Valley, Ariz., Jayson Lubera had 17 points, and the Spartans used a 14-1 second-quarter run to take a 36-11 halftime lead and bury the Longhorns in the Alvarez Tire Holiday Classic.

Brewer added nine points for Cimarron.

Silverado 56, Martin Luther King (Calif.) 43 — At Palm Springs, Calif., Justin Johnson had 15 points, and the Skyhawks used a 15-6 spurt in the fourth quarter to salt away the win in the Desert Heat Invitational.

Ruben Jackson added 12 points, and David Ware scored 10 for the Skyhawks.

Green Valley 67, Rock Academy (Calif.) 41 — At El Cajon, Calif., Earl Thompson tallied 20 points, and the Gators grabbed a 38-25 halftime lead on their way to a win in the Braves Basketball Tournament.

Austin Tebbs added 14 points, and Lorenzo Jarvis scored nine for Green Valley.
