ROUNDUP: Walker’s 47 power Lynx to Lake Mead Classic title

Lincoln County guard Dantley Walker was named after former NBA great Adrian Dantley.

It might have been more fitting had he been named after Jerry West, who famously was nicknamed “Mr. Clutch.”

Walker scored 26 of his 47 points in the fourth quarter Saturday to help the Lynx hold on for a 91-84 win over host Lake Mead in the title game of the Lake Mead Holiday Classic.

The 5-foot-11-inch junior hit seven 3-pointers and finished 14-for-21 from the floor and 12-for-13 on free throws. He scored 18 points in the final 4½ minutes.

“What do you want me to say? I’ve never seen anybody shoot like that, not in person,” Lincoln County coach Mike Wood said. “He can just flat-out shoot, and in the fourth quarter, he had two guys on him.”

Walker, who was named tournament Most Valuable Player, averaged 31.6 points in leading the Lynx (5-0) to five wins at the tournament.

“I try not to show it, but once I start hitting my shots, it just feels like everything’s going in,” said Walker, who drew a standing ovation after the game.

Lake Mead (4-1) trailed by 21 points late in the third quarter but turned up its defense to rattle off a 41-23 run.

Spencer Kowis’ three-point play pulled the Eagles within 79-76 in the final two minutes, but Walker answered with a jumper, and Lake Mead got no closer.

“Before the game, we told them, 'This kid’s going to play college ball,’ ” Lake Mead coach Jeff Newton said of Walker, who also had six assists. “After the game, I said, 'I told you.’

“It wasn’t that he wasn’t being defended. He was being defended, making shots that were being contested. He’s a remarkable player who had a remarkable game.”

Eric Rippetoe had 19 points for Lincoln County before fouling out early in the fourth quarter. Chandler Katschke added 10.

Landon Littlefield scored 33 points to lead Lake Mead. De’Quan Thompson added 18 points, L.J. Yamzon 12, Kowis 10 and Jessie Hehn 10 for the Eagles.

 

All-tournament honors went to: Rippetoe; Littlefield and Thompson; Calvary Chapel’s Tyler Moore; Beatty’s Anthony Regalado; Basic’s Nick Sangchaloay; The Meadows’ Austin Brown; Boulder City’s Kyle Dimpel; and Trinity’s Budweiser Hawkins.

 

Calvary Chapel 56, Beatty 48 — At Lake Mead, Denzel Morris scored 12 points and Joey Peterson 10 as the Lions beat the Hornets in the Lake Mead Holiday Classic.

Ivan Maldonado led Beatty with 15 points.

Basic 64, The Meadows 47 — At Lake Mead, Vince Carducci scored 16 points to lead the Wolves past the Mustangs in the Lake Mead Holiday Classic.

Sangchaloay added 10 points for Basic, and Tyler Dobbins had nine points, seven assists and four steals.

The Wolves jumped to a 13-3 lead and never looked back.

Max Newman scored 18 points and Garrett Gosse 12 for The Meadows.

Henderson International 46, Spring Mountain 44 — At Lake Mead, Jay Sutorius’ runner with 7.5 seconds remaining lifted the Wolverines to the win in the Lake Mead Holiday Classic.

Sutorius finished with 17 points for Henderson International, which outscored Spring Mountain 16-11 in the fourth quarter.

De’Andre Hampton scored 19 points and Brandon Thompson 10 for Spring Mountain.

Boulder City 60, Trinity 45 — At Lake Mead, Michael Walker scored 20 points to lead the Eagles over the Thunder in the Lake Mead Holiday Classic.

Preston Swasey added 10 points for Boulder City, which led 18-8 after one quarter.

 

Hawkins scored 27 to lead Trinity.

Indian Springs 54, San Diego Lutheran 32 — At Lake Mead, Junior Baker had 20 points as the Thunderbirds won a consolation game in the Lake Mead Holiday Classic.

Adam Reinke added 17 points for Indian Springs, which outscored Lutheran 35-15 in the second half.

Yerington 67, Pahranagat Valley 62 — At Hawthorne, Cody Hosier scored 22 points to lead the Panthers in defeat at the Mineral County Serpent Classic.

Tyler Higbee and Jeremy Roemer added 12 each for Pahranagat Valley.

Pahranagat Valley 47, Pershing County 45 — At Hawthorne, Hosier scored 20 points as the Panthers held on for the win at the Mineral County Serpent Classic.

Kale Leavitt added 10 points for Pahranagat Valley, which shot 14-for-16 from the free-throw line.
