ROUNDUP: Winder’s double-double drives Gaels into title game at Myrtle Beach

Anson Winder had 12 points and 12 rebounds Wednesday as Bishop Gorman’s boys survived a nip-and-tuck game to down Scott County (Ky.), 61-56, in the semifinals of the Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The Gaels scored 37 second-half points, including the final five points of the game to pull out the win in a game that was tied at 26 at the half.
Johnathan Loyd had 17 points, and Taylor Spencer added 15 points for the Gaels.
Harvard-Westlake (Calif.) 78, Foothill 67 — At Palm Springs, Calif., Evan Roquemore scored 35 points, but the Falcons couldn’t overcome Harvard-Westlake in the title game of the Desert Heat Classic.
Chris Clementi added 10 points for the Falcons, who trailed only 31-28 at the half.
Canyon Springs 73, Highland (Ariz.) 55 — At Mesa, Ariz., Michael Thompson, Donald Anderson and Adrian Snow each scored 11 second-half points as the Pioneers outscored Highland 45-24 in the final 16 minutes of the championship game of the Vista Mesa Basketball Challenge.
Anderson finished with 19 points, six assists and four steals. Jeremy Alexander had 14 points and seven of the Pioneers’ 25 steals.
Thompson also scored 14, and Snow finished with 11 points.
Palo Verde (Ariz.) 69, Cimarron-Memorial 60 — At Prescott, Ariz., Kevin Olekaibe’s 36 points weren’t enough as Palo Verde captured the championship game of the Alvarez Tire Holiday Hoops Classic.
Bryce Cotton, who played last season at Cimarron’s Northwest League-rival Palo Verde (Nev.), scored 27 points to lead the Arizona team.
Olekaibe set the tournament scoring record with 164 points in the Spartans’ five games. He has scored 555 points in 15 games this season.
Olekaibe and Erik Brewer were named to the all-tournament team.
 
Sierra Vista 64, East Thunderbird (Alaska) 62 — At Tucson, Ariz., Viko Noma'aea poured in 51 points to help the Mountain Lions nip East Thunderbird in the Northwest Desert Classic.
 
Noma'aea drained seven 3-pointers and was 14-for-15 from the free-throw line in the game.
Virgin Valley 60, Richfield (Utah) 51 — At Cedar City, Utah, Cameron Jensen hit all five of his 3-pointer attempts during the middle two quarters and finished with 25 points as the Bulldogs downed Richfield in the third-place game of the Steve Hodson Basketball Classic.
Jason Wittwer added 15 points, and Zach Horlacher had nine points and eight rebounds for Virgin Valley.
Moapa Valley 58, Grantsville (Utah) 38 — At Cedar City, Utah, Josh Thompson scored 14 points to help Moapa Valley wrap up fifth place in the Steve Hodson Basketball Classic.
The Pirates expanded a 27-16 halftime lead by outscoring the Cowboys 19-8 in the third quarter and cruised to the win.
Chadron (Neb.) 61, Desert Oasis 60 — At Gillette, Wyo., the Diamondbacks fell to the Cardinals in the Energy Classic after finishing the first half tied at 32.
Nick Cruz and Anthony Lianzo scored 16 points apiece for Desert Oasis. Cameron Jefferson added eight points and nine rebounds.
Jefferson was also named to the all-tournament team.
Lincoln County 78, Enterprise (Utah) 73 — At Panaca, Dantley Walker drained nine 3-pointers as the Lynx unleashed a 45-point second half to down the Wolves.
Walker led Lincoln County with 42 points and nine assists.
Eric Rippetoe added 22 points and nine rebounds for the Lynx.
GIRLS
Palo Verde 36, Churchill County 32 — At Reno, Dominique Bryant and Lily Tapusoa each scored eight points to help the Panthers nip Churchill County in the Bully’s Winter Classic.
Liberty 66, Round Rock (Texas) 59 — At Phoenix, Amanda Delgado scored 17 of her 30 points in the fourth quarter as the Patriots held off Round Rock in the Tournament of Champions.
Daynice Cochran added 14 points for Liberty, which led 44-42 entering the fourth.
Cypress (Calif.) 57, Sierra Vista 46 — At Anaheim, Calif., Cypress used a 24-14 third-quarter burst to down the Mountain Lions in the seventh-place game of the Savanna Rebels Classic.
Jeanette Jackson led Sierra Vista with 14 points. Nicolette Grigsby added 10 points for the Mountain Lions.
 
Battle Mountain 64, West Wendover 53 — At Battle Mountain, Jordan Waugh scored 26 points as the host school topped the Wolverines.
 
Danika Sharp scored 40 points for West Wendover. Sharp was 13-for-16 from the field and made 12 of 14 free throws.
