GIRLS BASKETBALL: Burrell helps Sierra Vista to win in tourney opener

Iymoni Burrell scored 11 points Friday to help Sierra Vista’s girls basketball team to a 34-24 win over Loara (Calif.) in the opening round of the Lady Rebel Holiday Classic in Anaheim, Calif.

Danielle Morrow added nine points for the Mountain Lions, who led 21-13 at the half.

Zuleica Sandoval paced the Saxons with 13 points.

Bishop Gorman 45, Great Oak (Calif.) 30 — At El Cajon, Calif., Madison Washington had 13 points to lead the Gaels by the Wolfpack in the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic.

Alaysia Robinson and Raychel Stanley each added 10 points for Gorman, which used a 10-4 third-quarter burst to take a 32-21 lead.

Arbor View 43, Norco (Calif.) 39 — At Norco, Calif., Janae Strode had 12 points to help the Aggies top the Cougars in the West Coast Holiday Festival.

Ariona Gill added 11 points for Arbor View, which closed the first quarter on a 9-0 run to overcome an early 9-2 deficit.

Rosary (Calif.) 61, Boulder City 38 — At Murrieta, Calif., Emily Arellanes scored 18 points to lead the Royals by the Eagles in the Nighthawk Classic.

Megan Morton had 11 points for Boulder City.
