GIRLS BASKETBALL: Strong fourth quarter helps Western stun Faith Lutheran

Destiny Gonzalez scored 12 of her 21 points in the fourth quarter Wednesday to rally Western's girls basketball team to a 55-47 win over visiting Faith Lutheran.

Capricia Pierce added 16 points for the Warriors, who trailed 35-31 entering the fourth quarter.

Sam Caruth had 24 points to lead Faith Lutheran, which got 13 points from Bryanna Neagle.

Legacy 63, Palo Verde 54 — At Palo Verde, TaEha Pankey had 24 points to help the Longhorns rally past the Panthers.

C'Aree Stevenson added 17 points for Legacy, which trailed 37-35 after three quarters.

Paulina Silcox led all scorers with 25 points for Palo Verde, which also got 11 points from Brooklyn Cruz and 10 points from Kaylee Puckett.

Cheyenne 28, Pahrump Valley 25 — At Cheyenne, Dominique Hudson and Koreyl Godbolt each scored seven points as the Desert Shields grabbed a 15-9 halftime lead and held off the Trojans.

Lauren Ashford led Pahrump with 10 points.

Shadow Ridge 52, Durango 31 — At Shadow Ridge, Alexa Martins led three double-figure scorers with 16 points to power the Mustangs by the Trailblazers.

Tamara Gisendaner and Lauryn Calo each added 11 points for Shadow Ridge, which led 29-10 at halftime.

Brittany Romo scored 10 for Durango.

Moapa Valley 42, Boulder City 17 — At Boulder City, Summer Evans had 15 points as the Pirates pounded the Eagles.

Kinlee Marshall and Matilda Thompson had seven points each for Moapa Valley, which led 25-9 at halftime and outscored Boulder City 10-2 in the fourth quarter.

Megan Morton led the Eagles with 15 points.

Virgin Valley 54, Sunrise Mountain 30 — At Mesquite, Briana Todd had 20 points, and the Bulldogs used a 25-6 third-quarter run to pull away from the Miners.

Emma Barnum had 14 points, and Bernice Fiso scored 11 for Virgin Valley, which led just 22-18 at the half.

Nina Carpenter led Sunrise Mountain with 10 points.

Chaparral 80, Tech 40 — At Tech, Alexis Vanstory had 23 points, and Marcia Hawkins added 21 points as the Cowboys beat the Roadrunners.

Jasmine Martin scored 10 for Chaparral.

The teams were tied at 14 after the first quarter before the Cowboys took control with a 24-9 second-quarter run. Chaparral outscored the Roadrunners 26-4 in the fourth quarter.

Tayler Muwwakkil led Tech with 13 points.

Spring Valley 71, Sierra Vista 31 — At Sierra Vista, Essence Booker had 22 points to lead the Grizzlies by the Mountain Lions.

Kayla Harris had 15 points, and Kalynn Lesley added 14 points for Spring Valley.

Kayla Smith led Sierra Vista with 10 points.

Desert Pines 60, Del Sol 15 — At Del Sol, See'Airrah Evans-Collins scored 17 points, and Jordan Bailey added 13 points as the Jaguars roared past the Dragons.

Chyristian Myles supplied 12 points for Desert Pines, which led 40-9 at halftime.

Nickki Ventura scored six points for Del Sol.

Clark 2, Mojave 0 — At Mojave, the Chargers won by forfeit. The Rattlers forfeited the game after their participation in a brawl with Canyon Springs on Monday.
