LV INVITATIONAL: Westmoreland, Aggies use big runs to top Coronado

Autumn Westmoreland scored 10 of her 14 points in the first half Thursday as Arbor View's girls basketball team pulled away from Coronado for a 60-35 win in the opening game of the Las Vegas Invitational at Bishop Gorman.

The Aggies opened the game on a 14-4 run and later used a 17-0 spurt, capped by Alaysia Reed's basket inside with 12:20 to go in the second half, to expand the lead to 42-19.

Kera Farmer added 10 points and six rebounds for Arbor View (4-1), which effectively used its transition game to score.

Sayanna Roy led the Cougars (2-4) with 16 points.

Bishop Gorman 84, Valley 37 — Skylar Jackson led a balanced attack with 14 points as the Gaels routed the Vikings.

Raychel Stanley added 11 points, and Ciara Young scored 10 for Gorman, which led 59-27 at the half.

Sandra Scroggins had 11 points, and Almond Slayton scored 10 for Valley.

Bishop Gorman 64, Desert Hills (Utah) 38 — Aja Phoumiphat hit four 3-pointers in the second half and finished with 14 points to help the Gaels pull away from the Thunder.

Gorman led only 32-26 before Phoumiphat hit her first 3-pointer with 13:43 remaining, igniting a 21-4 run that put the game out of reach.

Madison Washington added 14 points and five rebounds, and Stanley had 11 points for Gorman, which also got 10 points from Megan Jacobs.

Ashley Beckstrand led the Thunder with 23 points, and teammate Ellyn Williams had nine points and 10 rebounds. Beckstrand and Williams combined to score 27 of Desert Hills' first 28 points.

Liberty 51, Skyline (Utah) 44 — Taylor Turney scored 16 of her 22 points in the second half as the Patriots held off the Eagles.

Turney was 10 of 11 from the free-throw line in the second half for Liberty, which made 20 of 27 from the line.

Gabby Doxtator added eight points, including the go-ahead 3-pointer early in the second half for the Patriots.

Cameron Mooney had 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Sarah Trela-Hoskins scored 10 for Skyline, which held a 46-29 edge in rebounds but committed 31 turnovers.

Castle View (Colo.) 61, Coronado 18 — Michaela Trainer scored 14 points as the Sabercats routed the Cougars.

McKay Van Sickle added 13 points, and Elle Gillen scored 10 for Castle View, which led 36-11 at the half and limited Coronado to five field goals in the game.

Abbie Cox had five points for Coronado.
