ROUNDUP: Barnard helps Bulldog girls take tourney title

Abbie Barnard tallied 18 points, and Virgin Valley's girls basketball team outscored Aquinas (Calif.) 47-23 in the final three quarters Saturday en route to a 55-29 win in the championship game of the Lady Bulldog Invitational in Mesquite.

Barnard earned most valuable player honors in the tournament, and teammate Cassidy Crandall was named to the all-tournament team after scoring 10 points in the title game.

Corinna Murphy led Aquinas with seven points.

Murphy, Pahranagat Valley's Kimberly Lewis and Panguitch (Utah)'s Natashia Barney rounded out the all-tournament team.

Pahranagat Valley 38, Panguitch (Utah) 36 — At Mesquite, Bailee Hosier scored 11 points, and the Panthers withstood a late rally to capture the third-place game of the Lady Bulldog Invitational.

Carly Holman had 12 points, and Barney scored 11 for Panguitch, which trailed 33-25 after three quarters.

Wells 39, Del Sol 28 — At Mesquite, Kevyn Swabb tallied 15 points, and the Leopards rallied from a 15-8 first-quarter deficit to down the Dragons in the fifth-place game of the Lady Bulldog Invitational.

Virgin Valley 48, Panguitch (Utah) 34 — At Mesquite  Barnard poured in 17 points, and the Bulldogs used a 20-8 third-quarter run to put away the Bobcats in the semifinals of the Lady Bulldog Invitational.
Barney led Panguitch with 10 points.

Aquinas (Calif.) 55, Pahranagat Valley 45 — At Mesquite, Lindsey Ybarra scored 14 points to help the Falcons advance to the finals of the Lady Bulldog Invitational with a win over the Panthers.

Halie Lewis had 14 points for Pahranagat Valley, and teammate Traci Strong scored 11.

Lincoln County 40, Lake Mead 33 — At Mesquite, Lacee Babcock and Elle Scott led a balanced attack with eight points apiece as the Lynx outlasted the Eagles in the seventh-place game of the Lady Bulldog Invitational.

Chelsea Lloyd and Kourtney Gloeckner added seven points apiece for Lincoln County.

Taylor Badua-Kono paced Lake Mead with 12 points.

Wells 48, Lake Mead 38 — At Mesquite, Ericka Pengelly poured in 20 points to guide the Leopards past the Eagles in the Lady Bulldog Invitational.

Swabb added 13 points for Wells, which led 30-19 at the half.

Badua-Kono tallied 23 points for Lake Mead.

Del Sol 34, Lincoln County 24 — At Mesquite, Melissa DeSantiago and Kaleileihua Cabanas each scored eight points, and Desiree Orozco added seven points to help the Dragons down the Lynx in the Lady Bulldog Invitational.

Leticia Escobedo had 10 points for Lincoln County.

Desert Oasis 39, Zoom (Calif.) 27 — At Anaheim, Calif., Brianna Osorio tallied 11 points to help the Diamondbacks finish a 3-0 day at the Swoosh Tournament.

Tatiana Kearn added nine points, and Lenzi Cram scored six for Desert Oasis.

Desert Oasis 42, Notre Dame (Canada) 23 — At Anaheim, Calif., Auburn Smith, Jaqueline Garcia, Kearn and Osorio each had seven points to lead the Diamondbacks past Notre Dame in the first game of the Swoosh Tournament.

Desert Oasis built a 33-8 halftime lead and cruised to the win.

Desert Oasis 35, Orange County Rhythm (Calif.) 30 — At Anaheim, Calif., Kearn and Osorio each scored nine points, and Smith added seven points to lead the Diamondbacks to another win in the Swoosh Tournament.

Indian Springs 48, Laughlin 43 — At Laughlin, Alexxa Reinke tallied 18 points, and the Thunderbirds used an 18-8 second-quarter run to down the Cougars.

Baylee McCormick added 10 points for Indian Springs.

Paty Valdez paced Laughlin with 17 points, and teammate DeAnna Tripp grabbed eight rebounds.

4A/3A girls state roundup: Legacy, Canyon Springs ousted

Legacy and Canyon Springs couldn’t keep up in the Class 4A girls basketball state semifinals. The Southern Region representatives in 3A also were eliminated.
