ROUNDUP: Freshman Beynon helps Pioneer girls hold off Vikings

Canyon Springs freshman Cherise Beynon hit a 3-pointer with 1 minute, 31 seconds left in the third quarter to halt a 9-0 Valley run, and the Pioneers went on to beat visiting Valley 66-54 on Tuesday.

Valley’s run had cut Canyon Springs’ lead to 38-35, but Beynon’s shot helped the Pioneers extend the lead to 45-35 at the end of the third quarter.

After the Vikings had cut the lead to 48-39 on a steal and basket by Brianna Johnson, Diamond Broadus hit a 3-pointer and followed that with a stick-back with 5:55 to go, and Valley wouldn’t challenge again.

Broadus and Kenosha Wright each had 15 points to lead the Pioneers, and Beynon and Faith Harper each scored 11.

Wright added 11 rebounds, three blocked shots and three assists, and Harper had six steals and three assists. Pearl Paulo grabbed 12 rebounds for Canyon Springs, which won despite turning the ball over 34 times.

Wilson led Valley with 11 points and 14 rebounds. Johnson also scored 11, and Shayna Porter added 10 points, six rebounds, eight assists and four steals for the Vikings.

Sunrise Mountain 37, Eldorado 36 — At Sunrise Mountain, Takeyra Ingram scored nine points, including a free throw with 10 seconds left that gave the Miners the final lead and its first-ever Northeast League win.

Da’Nisha Wedlow had 10 points for Sunrise Mountain, which had lost its first 18 league games dating back to the start of the Miners’ inaugural season.

Casey Bradshaw scored 15 points for Eldorado, which went 14-for-30 from the free-throw line.

Rancho 38, Chaparral 30 — At Rancho, Tryicia Payne scored 12 points, and the Rams grabbed an early 13-6 lead and held off the Cowboys.

Jacquie Ferguson and Tichina Savoy each had 10 points for Chaparral.

Silverado 58, Coronado 50 — At Silverado, Natalie Lainhart went 8-for-8 from the free-throw line and finished with 14 points as the Skyhawks downed the Cougars.

Tae’lor Monroe paced Silverado with 15 points. Brittany Loguidice and Diamond Wright each added 10 points for the Skyhawks.

Sofie Cruz had 14 points, and Katie Bittner scored 10 for Coronado.

Liberty 60, Foothill 45 — At Liberty, Amanda Delgado had 20 points, four assists and three steals to lift the Patriots past the Falcons.

Alena Evans supplied 13 points and six rebounds, and Jade Washington added seven points, five assists and five steals for Liberty, which used a 19-11 third quarter spurt to pull away.

Cheryl Harless led Foothill with nine points.

Basic 54, Del Sol 36 — At Del Sol, Kailai Brantner had 19 points, and the Wolves grabbed a 28-15 halftime lead and cruised past the Dragons.

Shanice Valentine added 12 points, and Amandi Silva scored 11 for Basic.

Melissa DeSantiago led Del Sol with 10 points.

Green Valley 49, Tech 26 — At Tech, Maggie Manwarren had 14 points to lead the Gators past the Roadrunners.

Adriana Heredia scored 14 to lead Tech, which trailed 28-12 at the half.

Lake Mead 39, Calvary Chapel 31 — At Calvary Chapel, Colleen Zumaran had 13 points, and the Eagles held the Lions scoreless in the second quarter en route to the win.

Taylor Badua-Kono added 11 points for Lake Mead.

Sammie Mann paced Calvary Chapel with 18 points.

Needles 32, Mountain View 19 — At Needles, Calif., Abby Chandler scored 10 points, and the Mustangs held the Saints to 10 points through three quarters on the way to the win.

Briana Maruffo and Patrice Marshall each scored nine points for the Saints.

Lincoln County 50, Agassi Prep 35 — At Agassi Prep, Tia Florence scored 17 points to lead the Lynx past the Stars.

Melanie Florence added 12 points, and Lacee Babcock scored 10 for Lincoln County, which led 28-11 at halftime.

Alannah Conway had 11 points, and LaBrishun Hardwick scored 10 for the Stars.

Beatty 52, The Meadows 34 — At The Meadows, Amber Ibarra had 14 points to give the Hornets a win over the Mustangs.

Teresa Gomez added nine points for Beatty, which led 29-12 at the half.

Amber Peterson scored 10 for The Meadows.

Indian Springs 37, Laughlin 23 — At Laughlin, Tessa Lounsbury and Alexxa Reinke each scored 10 points to help the Thunderbirds defeat the Cougars.

Adelson School 36, Sandy Valley 35 — At Adelson School, Ale’ Gibson drained two free throws late in regulation to force overtime and hit two more in the extra period to account for the winning margin as the Lions nipped the Sidewinders.

Sueleika Blackwell led Adelson with 13 points, and teammate Elie Steinberg added 10 points, six rebounds and five steals. Gibson finished with four points and seven rebounds.

Roxann Elmore paced Sandy Valley with 10 points.
