Washington leads Coronado girls to victory in Nike tourney

Dajah Washington scored 15 points Monday to lead Coronado’s girls basketball team to a 46-34 win over Corona del Sol (Ariz.) in the Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix.

Anastaysa Youmans added nine points for the Cougars, who outscored the Aztecs, 16-4 in the fourth quarter.

Centennial 60, Piedmont (Calif.) 52 — At Phoenix, Sarah Kruthaupt had 15 points as the Bulldogs won to place third in their bracket at the Nike Tournament of Champions.

Tanjanae Wells and Jayden Eggleston each added eight points and 11 rebounds for Centennial, which outscored Piedmont 17-8 in the fourth quarter.

Karina Brandon scored 10 points for the Bulldogs.

NIAA to re-evaluate rule allowing appeals of forfeits

The association’s board of control voted Wednesday to have staff write a proposal and survey member schools to possibly strike the ability for teams that use an ineligible to appeal any forfeits.
