Burton, Pioneers rout Valley

Diamante Burton scored three touchdowns Thursday as Canyon Springs' football team dominated visiting Valley, 50-6.

Burton returned the second-half kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown, and added TD runs of 1 and 35 yards. He finished with 75 yards on eight carries for the Pioneers (3-5, 1-2 Northeast League).

Jerrod Blackwell added 105 rushing yards on 10 carries for Canyon Springs, which finished with 271 yards on the ground and had eight players carry the ball. Marcell Selmon, Devin Allen-Tucker and Tre'von Dean also had rushing TDs for the Pioneers.

Canyon Springs nearly completed the shutout, but Valley's Iyen Medlock scored on a 38-yard run with 1:38 to play.

Medlock had 77 yards on 14 carries for Valley (0-9, 0-4), which was limited to 129 yards of offense.
