CLASS 3A: Pirates’ Lewis, Cooper lead South honorees

Northern Nevada schools dominated the Class 3A all-state football team voted on by coaches, but Moapa Valley led the way in representing Southern Nevada.
Moapa Valley’s Casen Lewis took first-team honors at receiver and cornerback, and Hayden Cooper was named a first-team receiver and safety. Pirates quarterback Kelan Weiss, offensive lineman Taylor Schwartz, defensive lineman Zach Staley and linebacker Haydn Waite also received first-team status.
First-team honors also went to Boulder City offensive lineman Bleu Huxford, Virgin Valley defensive lineman Robert Lilly, Virgin Valley linebacker Kyler Hughes and Boulder City punter Austyn Hyde.
Truckee quarterback Ben Bolton was named Most Valuable Player. Lowry running back Jace Billingsley took Offensive Player of the Year, Truckee linebacker Morgan Nevin claimed the Defensive Player of the Year, Lowry’s Will Thacker was the Lineman of the Year, and Truckee’s Bob Shaffer was named Coach of the Year.
