Hayes, Shaw help Jaguars rout Cowboys

Desert Pines' Leon Hayes rushed for 174 yards, including a 76-yard touchdown in the first quarter, and Derrick Shaw (111 yards) added two rushing scores to power the Jaguars (5-3, 5-1 Northeast) to a 51-7 home win over Chaparral (0-8, 0-6) on Friday.

Shaw ran for scores of 50 and 6 yards in the first half. Ri’Chard Green compiled 49 yards and two touchdowns on five carries.

Darel Allen-Tucker returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown for Desert Pines. Trey Robello threw a 45-yard TD pass to Quincy Fields en route 84 yards on 5 of 7 completions.

Thaddeusz Smith added a late score while piling up 42 yards on four carries in the second half.

Karlventz Thegenus led the Cowboys with 33 yards, including a 1-yard scoring plunge, on eight carries.

Chaparral’s Jacob Barr completed 6 of 20 passes for 82 yards with one interception. Toure Williams hauled in four passes for 44 yards.
