D.J. Gordon rushed for 227 yards and four touchdowns on 17 carries to lead Riverside (Calif.) Christian’s football team to a 51-6 rout of Calvary Chapel in the season opener for both teams at The Meadows on Saturday night.
Gordon scored on runs of 9, 6, 8 and 87 yards, the last coming on the final play of the third quarter. Brandon Harris added 121 yards and one TD on 10 attempts for the Cougars, who outgained the Lions 448 to 102 in total yards of offense.
Riverside Christian forced three turnovers, including Brandt Mendez’s 29-yard interception return for a score in the second quarter.
Calvary Chapel scored its only points on Cody Moreno’s 10-yard run in the third period to cut the deficit to 41-6. Moreno carried 16 times for 85 yards to lead the Lions.
