ROUNDUP: LaMarca breaks through as Eagles dust Devils

With his team behind and facing a fourth-and-6 from the River Valley (Ariz.) 25-yard line in the fourth quarter, Boulder City running back Jack LaMarca made a promise to his coach.
“He walked over to me on the sideline and said, 'Coach, I’ll get you 6 yards,’” Eagles coach Alex Kazel said.
LaMarca wound up with much more than that. The senior burst through a huge hole on the right side of the offensive line for a 25-yard touchdown run, giving Boulder City its first lead of the game in a 15-5 home victory Friday night.
LaMarca’s touchdown run capped an eight-play, 80-yard drive spanning 3:13. He also had runs of 27 and 20 yards on the drive, which ended with 7:18 remaining, and then hit Sean Bird with a two-point conversion pass to give Boulder City (2-1) an 8-5 lead.
“He’s a senior, and you expect seniors to step up and make plays,” Kazel said of LaMarca.
LaMarca added a 1-yard scoring run with 1:14 remaining after a 33-yard scamper by Matt Combs, and the ensuing extra point put the Eagles up 15-5.
LaMarca carried 13 times for 97 yards to help Boulder City overcome a litany of miscues in the first three quarters.
River Valley (1-2) scored a safety when Combs was tackled in the end zone after a bad snap early in the second quarter. Another bad snap on an Eagles punt led to a 14-yard loss on fourth down, setting up the Dust Devils at Boulder City’s 34 with 3:01 left in the first half.
River Valley took a 5-0 halftime lead after Phillip Maxwell kicked a 22-yard field goal as time expired.
Boulder City also muffed a punt and lost a fumble.
“It’s always frustrating,” Kazel said of the mishaps. “The good news is, we’ve shot ourselves in the foot so many times the last couple weeks, I don’t think we have any left.”
Frankie Badgely added 48 rushing yards on nine carries for the Eagles.
Boulder City’s defense held River Valley to 74 yards of offense, put up three sacks and recovered two fumbles.
“They were aggressive and made plays in the backfield,” Kazel said of his defense. “They stepped up big.”
Moapa Valley 48, Kanab (Utah) 7 — At Kanab, Utah, Kelan Weiss passed for a touchdown and rushed for two more to lead the Pirates (1-2) to their first win of the season.
Weiss had 13- and 9-yard TD runs in the second quarter to help Moapa Valley take a 27-7 halftime lead.
Weiss, who completed 12 of 17 passes for 227 yards, also threw a 15-yard scoring strike to Hayden Cooper in the third quarter.
Cooper tossed a 50-yard touchdown pass to Casen Lewis in the first quarter. Lewis finished with six catches for 155 yards.
Tonopah 51, Lone Pine (Calif.) 24 — At Lone Pine, Calif., Seth Littlefield rushed for 142 yards and a touchdown to help the Muckers (2-1) roll past the Eagles.
Cedric Kirby rushed for 92 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries for Tonopah, which had 392 yards of offense.
Lincoln County 22, Milford (Utah) 12 — At Milford, Utah, Preston Avery returned an interception 68 yards for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter to help seal the win for the Lynx (1-1).
Lincoln County’s defense snatched four interceptions from the Cowboys.
Cole McClain passed for 120 yards and two touchdowns, and carried 10 times for 96 yards to lead the Lynx offense.
He hit Ryan Lloyd with a 70-yard scoring strike, and threw to Avery for a 50-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter.

Spring Mountain 82, Lund 0 — At Lund, Alastair Houpe scored five touchdowns as the Eagles built a 60-0 halftime lead and throttled Lund.

Houpe rushed three times for 110 yards and three touchdowns, and had two returns for scores.

Malcom Brown and Anthony Taylor each had a pair of rushing touchdowns for Spring Mountain (2-0). Brown also threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Julius Zavalza on the Eagles' only passing attempt of the game.
