Sam Boyd Stadium to host Class 4A title game

Postseason football is still more than a month away.
But the Class 4A playoff schedule was altered slightly Tuesday.
The state championship game, which was originally listed to be held at a Northern Nevada site, will instead be contested at Sam Boyd Stadium. The title game is scheduled for Dec. 4 at noon.
One of the state semifinal sites was also changed. The Sunrise Region champion will now travel to the host site of the Northern Region champion on Nov. 27 for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
The changes were made after it was discovered the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association’s policy had been misapplied when brackets were first posted in July.
In 2006, the state’s coaches associations and the NIAA agreed to a six-year cycle for determining postseason sites.
This is the fifth year of the six-year cycle, and it mirrors the playoff picture from 2007, when Sunrise champion Las Vegas traveled to McQueen for a semifinal and Bishop Gorman advanced directly to the state final after beating Palo Verde in the Sunset final.
In 2008, Northern Region champion McQueen advanced directly to the state title game. Sunset champ Palo Verde beat Sunrise champion Las Vegas to advance to the final, which was played in Reno.
Last year, Sunrise Region champion Del Sol earned the bye to the title game. Sunset Region champion Gorman visited Northern champion Reed in a semifinal.
In 2011, the Northern Region champion will again get the bye, and the state title game will be in Reno.
“This was agreed upon by both the Southern and Northern Nevada Coaches Associations,” NIAA assistant director Donnie Nelson said. “It’s the policy they voted on.”
