DIVISION III GOLF: Needles takes home team title

Zarek Phillips shot 1-over-par 73 on Wednesday to lead Needles to the team title at the Division III Southern League Tournament at the White Pine County Golf Course in Ely.

The Mustangs shot 398 as a team to top second-place White Pine by 13 strokes. Lake Mead was third at 422.

White Pine’s Ty Pickel shot 65 to take the individual title. Teammate Chris Young was third individually at 72.

Lake Mead’s Victor Banos was second individually at 71. Calvary Chapel’s Jett Isoda shot 74 to finish fifth.

The top three teams along with the top five individuals from nonqualifying teams advance to state.

All-state teams to be announced in June

All-state teams in all eight spring sports will be released one per day, beginning on June 6 with boys golf.
