SOCCER: Western boys top Clark, expand lead in Sunset League

Ricardo Gonzalez and Sergio Anaya each scored a first-half goal Friday to help Western’s boys soccer team to a 2-0 win at Clark.

Oscar Casas made five saves to earn the shutout for Western, which has an eight-point lead over the Chargers for first place in the Sunset League.

Cheyenne 3, Faith Lutheran 1 — At Faith Lutheran, Luis Cabrera scored three goals to power the Desert Shields by the Crusaders.

Conner Frame scored for Faith Lutheran.

Sierra Vista 3, Pahrump Valley 1 — At Sierra Vista, Zekarias Kassaye had a goal and an assist to lead the Mountain Lions by the Trojans.

Jason Damian and Erick Candido also scored for Sierra Vista.

Nolan Toomer scored for Pahrump.

GIRLS

Cheyenne 1, Faith Lutheran 1 — At Cheyenne, Liliana Gomez’s goal midway through the second half allowed the Desert Shields to tie the Crusaders.

Brenna Rohnkohl scored a first-half goal for Faith Lutheran.

Pahrump Valley 2, Sierra Vista 1 — At Pahrump, Jamie Murphy and Paige Chafee each scored once to help the Trojans nip the Mountain Lions.

Sophia Omidiji converted a penalty kick for Sierra Vista.

Clark 4, Western 0 — At Western, Kiary Valenzuela had two goals and two assists to power the Chargers by the Warriors.

Darian Gambetta and Ariana Reyes also scored for Clark.

Eyker Milan made three saves to earn the shutout.
