RECRUITING: Wildcats’ Major tabs Vandals

As college football recruiters lined up to pursue him, Las Vegas High senior Marquan Major looked for a chance to play early, a program committed to winning and a comfortable fit in academics.
Major found all those things at Idaho, and the wide receiver followed with an oral commitment to the Vandals on Tuesday.
“Today I thought about the visit, and I was just sold on Idaho,” Major said.
Major made an official visit to the campus in Moscow, Idaho, last weekend. He picked the Vandals over a scholarship offer from UNLV.
The senior wide receiver said UNLV’s coaching staff plans to visit his home later this week, but his commitment to Idaho is firm. Major said Idaho’s coaching staff will give him “every opportunity to play early.”
He left his visit impressed with the Vandals’ commitment toward winning. Idaho finished 6-7 this season while narrowly missing out on a bowl bid.
“(Idaho) coaches were mad they didn’t go to a bowl,” Major said. “That’s good. You don’t want to go to a program where they’re used to losing.”
Major plans to study business, advertising and marketing in college.
The 6-foot-3-inch standout bounced back from a collarbone injury in 2009 to become a key cog in Las Vegas’ explosive offense in 2010.
Major caught 43 passes for 545 yards and four touchdowns as a senior, helping the Wildcats (11-2) reach the Sunrise Region title game.
The highlight of Major’s senior season might have come Oct. 22, when he caught six passes for 99 yards in a 49-20 rout of Canyon Springs to clinch the Northeast League title.
Major burst on to the local scene as a sophomore, hauling in 58 receptions for 762 yards and five TDs to help Las Vegas win its sixth consecutive Sunrise championship.
