ROUNDUP: Romo, Basic open season with perfect game

Lacey Romo tossed a five-inning perfect game Thursday as Basic’s softball team began the season with an 11-0 win at Desert Pines.

Romo struck out 12 of the 15 Jaguars she faced and had a double and two RBIs for the Wolves, who scored four runs in the first inning and five in the third.

Liberty 20, Canyon Springs 0 — At Canyon Springs, Francesca Foti spun a five-inning no-hitter as Liberty routed the Pioneers.

Foti, who had eight strikeouts and a walk, was 3-for-3 with two triples for the Patriots, who scored all of their runs in the second, third and fourth innings.

Megan Patras hit 3-for-4 with a double for Liberty.

Centennial 14, Spring Valley 1 — At Spring Valley, Mia Acuna went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, one run and two RBIs, and Kylie

Bartlett went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs to lead the Bulldogs past the Grizzlies.

Mikayla Djordjevic went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored for Centennial, which scored nine runs in the second inning.

Green Valley 9, Las Vegas 6 — At Las Vegas, Carly Smith was 2-for-4 with a double, triple and two RBIs to help the Gators beat the Wildcats.

Ashley Westgarth was 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Jenise Gutierrez went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Las Vegas.

Palo Verde 6, Bonanza 0 — At Bonanza, Melissa McCormick pitched a two-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts to lead the Panthers past the Bengals.

Lauren Stover went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBIs for Palo Verde.

Cheyenne 13, Chaparral 3 — At Cheyenne, Rachel Holley hit 4-for-5 with a double, three runs and three RBIs, and Vanessa Sanders pitched a six-inning two-hitter to lead the Desert Shields past the Cowboys.

Melanie Manley was 2-for-4 with two doubles, a run and an RBI, and Bailey Benson went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs for Cheyenne.

Kendy Reynoso hit a three-run homer for Chaparral.

Legacy 14, White Pine 0 — At Needles, Sierra Pico tossed a three-inning no-hitter with five strikeouts and went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI to lead the Longhorns past the Bobcats in the Colorado River Invitational.

Alexis Fuller went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs, and Darcey Cochran went 2-for-2 with three runs for Legacy.

Yuma (Ariz.) 1, Tech 0 — At Needles, Calif., Isabel Villalobos threw a perfect game with 10 strikeouts as the Criminals downed the Roadrunners in the Colorado River Invitational.

Tech’s Amanda Roark held Yuma to three hits.

Tech 4, Needles 1 — At Needles, Roark threw a one-hitter to lead the Roadrunners past the Mustangs.

Roark allowed one unearned run and struck out 12 in the five-inning contest.

Boulder City 4, Faith Lutheran 1 — At Needles, Karlee Koopman pitched a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts as the Eagles beat the Crusaders in four innings.

Faith Lutheran's Kailey McEvilly allowed just one hit in the loss.

Faith Lutheran 10, Mountain View 0 — At Needles, Brittany Hampton 2as 3-for-3 with four stolen bases and two runs to lead the Crusaders to the three-inning win.

Hayley Thomas pitched a one-hitter with seven strikeouts to get the win.

St. Mary’s (Ariz.) 1, Desert Oasis 0 — At Bullhead City, Ariz., St. Mary’s scored on a home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to edge Desert Oasis in the opening round of the Tournament of Champions.

Lenzi Cram tossed a four-hitter and had three strikeouts for the Diamondbacks, who were limited to two hits.
