SOFTBALL: Hood, Grizzlies earn three wins

Winning pitcher Madison Hood was 3-for-4 with a triple, a double and four RBIs to lead Spring Valley’s softball team to a 13-7 win over Hunter (Utah) in the March Warm-Up in St. George, Utah.

Normandie Kniola was 3-for-4 with two doubles, and Ellie Endsley homered for Spring Valley, which trailed 7-5 before scoring six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Spring Valley 7, Cedar (Utah) 3 — At St. George, Utah, Madison Macove was 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs as the Grizzlies topped the Redmen in the March Warm-Up.

Vivian Quiroz was 3-for-4 with a double for Spring Valley.

Spring Valley 9, Juan Diego (Utah) 3 — At St. George, Utah, winning pitcher Michaela Hood was 2-for-2 with a home run, a double and three RBIs, and Kniola was 2-for-4 with two doubles in three RBIs as the Grizzlies topped the Soaring Eagles in the March Warm-Up.

Quiroz and Macove each went 2-for-4 with a double for Spring Valley.

Cheyenne 15, Virgin Valley 1 — At Cheyenne, Kaitlyn Dutton spun a three-hitter and struck out six to help the Desert Shields rout the Bulldogs in five innings.

Brittny Phillips was 3-for-3 with four RBIs, and Dutton was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs for Cheyenne.

Yucaipa (Calif.) 4, Coronado 1 — At Bullhead City, Ariz., Brooke Bolinger tossed a one-hitter to lead the Thunderbirds by the Cougars in the Tournament of Champions.

Marissa Kopp led off the sixth inning with a single and came around to score for Coronado, which loaded the bases in the sixth.

El Modena (Calif.) 11, Coronado 5 — At Bullhead City, Ariz., the Vanguards scored nine runs in the second inning and rolled to the five-inning win over the Cougars in the Tournament of Champions.

Centennial 3, Santa Monica (Calif.) 2 — At Bullhead City, Ariz., Jaden Tate singled home the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth to give the Bulldogs the win in the Tournament of Champions.

Kiana Tate started the rally with a bunt single, and Sonia Lawrence followed with a bunt single to set up Jaden Tate.

Cheyenne Cudahy went the distance, allowing no earned runs on four hits, to get the win.

Los Alamitos (Calif.) 6, Centennial 1 — At Bullhead City, Ariz., Jade Loe had a homer and three RBIs to help the Griffins beat the Bulldogs in the Tournament of Champions.

Katya Duvall threw a four-hitter with eight strikeouts to get the win.

Green Valley 9, Kofa (Ariz.) 4 — At Bullhead City, Ariz., Italia Reinoehl went 3-for-4 with two triples and three RBIs to lead the Gators to the win in the Tournament of Champions.

Samantha Loving was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Green Valley.

O’Connor (Ariz.) 11, Green Valley 0 — At Bullhead City, Ariz., the Gators managed just three hits and fell in the Tournament of Champions.

Legacy 9, Mountain View 0 — At Needles, Calif., Kellie Nelson tossed a four-inning no-hitter and struck out three as the Longhorns downed the Saints in the Colorado River Invitational.

Alyssa Sotelo was 2-for-2 with two doubles and three RBIs, and Eliza Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Legacy.

Legacy 12, Chino Valley (Ariz.) 0 — At Needles, Calif., Nelson spun a four-inning one-hitter and struck out six to lead the Longhorns by Chino Valley in the Colorado River Invitational.

Sotelo was 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI, and Eliza Ledesma-Esparza was 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs for Legacy.

Faith Lutheran 16, Palo Verde Valley (Calif.) 1 — At Needles, Calif., the Crusaders scored 12 runs in the bottom of the third to earn a four-inning win in the Colorado River Invitational.

Claire Peck was 2-for-3 with a three-run homer, and Makena Martin went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Faith Lutheran.

Vanessa Valdez was 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Crusaders.

Faith Lutheran 13, Williams (Ariz.) 0 — At Needles, Calif., Samantha Jack was 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs as the Crusaders routed Williams in three innings in the Colorado River Invitational.

Sara Zelazny added two hits, and Cheyenne Kidd also homered for Faith Lutheran, which scored 11 runs in the first inning.

Haley Jack tossed a three-hitter and struck out six for the Crusaders.

Silverado 15, Washington Union (Calif.) 6 — At St. George, Utah, Hanna McCall was 4-for-4, and Korina Pindel went 3-for-4 with a double as the Skyhawks routed the Panthers in five innings in the March Warm-Up Tournament.

Heaven Calhoun went 3-for-4, and Sarah Ford and Jessica Chamberlain each had two hits for Silverado.

Springville (Utah) 7, Silverado 6 — At St. George, Utah, winning pitcher Casey Jansen homered and doubled, and the Red Devils scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh to nip the Skyhawks in the March Warm-Up Tournament.

McCall was 3-for-3 with a triple, and Madison Sisco went 2-for-5 for Silverado.

Fremont (Utah) 10, Silverado 5 — At St. George, Utah, Ryley Ball had a home run and two doubles to power the Silver Wolves by the Skyhawks in six innings in the March Warm-Up Tournament.

Sisco was 2-for-3 with two solo home runs for Silverado. Alessandra Ponce went 3-for-3 with a double, and McCall was 3-for-4 for the Skyhawks, who also got a home run from Ford.

Desert Edge (Ariz.) 6, Bishop Gorman 5 — At Gorman, the Scorpions erased a 4-3 deficit with three runs in the bottom of the third and held off the Gaels in five innings in the Kick Off the Season Tournament.

Ashley Witucki and Sierra Dias each went 3-for-3 with a triple for Gorman.

Cimarron-Memorial 16, Canyon Springs 0 — At Cimarron, Rosie Del Rosario and Kailey Roldan combined on a five-inning one-hitter as the Spartans blanked the Pioneers.

Pahranagat Valley 10, Calvary Chapel 3 — At The Meadows, Kaitlyn Davis tossed a four-inning no-hitter and struck out three as the Panthers topped the Lions in The Meadows Tournament.

Madalyn Taylor homered and had two RBIs for Pahranagat Valley.

Pahranagat Valley 3, West Wendover 0 — At The Meadows, Ashlyn Wadsworth threw a three-hitter with three strikeouts to lead the Panthers past the Wolverines in The Meadows Tournament.

Pahranagat Valley 8, Bishop Gorman JV 3 — At The Meadows, the Panthers scored three runs in the top of the first and topped the Gaels’ junior varsity in The Meadows Tournament.

Western 7, Agassi Prep 0 — At Western, the Warriors won by forfeit.
