ROUNDUP: Centennial downs Palo Verde to grab second place in Northwest
Matt Kurtz had 15 kills, and Ryan Ramin added 12 kills Thursday to help Centennial’s boys volleyball team grab sole possession of second place in the Northwest League with a 25-22, 25-17, 17-25, 25-20 win at Palo Verde.
Leo Durkin added 42 assists and three aces for the Bulldogs, who improved to 10-2 in league play, two games behind Shadow Ridge (12-0), which clinched the league title Thursday, and one game ahead of the Panthers (9-3).
Sean Wilson paced Palo Verde with 27 assists, four digs and two aces. Trent Gneiting added 10 digs, four kills and three blocks, and Andrew Topham contributed 11 kills, seven digs and six blocks for the Panthers.
Shadow Ridge 3, Mojave 0 — At Shadow Ridge, Tom Rowan had nine kills, and Brandon Fisher added five kills to help the Mustangs to a 25-8, 25-14, 25-17 sweep of the Rattlers.
Demarge Boyd put down nine kills, and Greg Guese supplied nine digs for Mojave.
Legacy 3, Cheyenne 2 — At Cheyenne, Hector Bojado dished out 45 assists to help the Longhorns rally for a 23-25, 25-19, 20-25, 25-20, 15-11 win over the Desert Shields.
Billy Purcell had 16 kills, and Francisco Urbina added eight digs for Legacy.
Ervin Leu paced Cheyenne with 10 kills. Kevin Machuca added 10 assists, four aces and two kills, and Shaq Wilson recorded seven blocks and three kills for Cheyenne.
Arbor View 3, Cimarron-Memorial 0 — At Cimarron, Taylor Jones dished out 20 assists and Jesse Morgan had 14 digs to lead the Aggies to a 25-18, 25-21, 25-16 sweep of the Spartans.
Kirby Mengert supplied eight kills for the Aggies.
Ares Manumaleuna had seven kills, Braydon Egbert added 10 digs, and Brian Grupe registered six blocks and eight digs for Cimarron.
Del Sol 3, Basic 0 — At Del Sol, Eric Beil had five kills and seven digs, and Aaron Rife added five kills and four blocks to lead the Dragons to a 25-19, 25-18, 26-24 victory over the Wolves.
Nick Maglaras had 19 assists and 12 digs, and Cameron Ely added 12 digs for Del Sol.
Liberty 3, Foothill 0 — At Liberty, Paul Acluba had 33 assists, and Carlos Monroy notched 13 kills and three blocks to lead the Patriots past the Falcons, 25-16, 25-24, 25-19.
Brendon Reano had 12 kills, James Paras added six kills and two aces, and Ian Aguilan distributed three assists for Liberty.
Britain Rosenberg had 15 assists, F.J. Funtila spiked seven kills, and Joel Stoker posted four blocks to lead Foothill.
Spring Valley 3, Sierra Vista 1 — At Sierra Vista, Dallas Teshima dished out 40 assists to help Spring Valley down the Mountain Lions, 25-23, 23-25, 25-15, 25-21.
Blake Ringer added 16 kills and Khoa Nguyen put up 10 blocks for the Grizzlies, who also got 10 kills and nine digs from Seth McGinn.
Preston Miranda supplied 37 assists and four kills for Sierra Vista. Cody Seager had 20 kills and eight digs, and Khrumm Fahim added 11 kills for the Mountain Lions.
