VOLLEYBALL: Layne, Bengals sweep Bulldogs

Kellen Layne had eight kills, three aces and six digs Monday to help Bonanza’s boys volleyball team to a 25-23, 25-20, 25-22 sweep of visiting Centennial.

Brian Clow had eight kills, seven digs and two blocks, and Andrew Jensen added nine kills for the Bengals, who got 26 assists from Joshua Lee and 11 digs from Adam Puckoris.

Tanner Durkin had nine kills, and Parker Grimes added eight kills for Centennial. Chet Durkin had 25 assists, 10 digs and two aces for the Bulldogs.

Eldorado 3, Del Sol 2 — At Del Sol, Jacob Tibbs had 17 kills as the Sundevils defeated the Dragons, 25-20, 25-14, 21-25, 23-25, 15-9.

Jacob Hollingsworth added six kills, and Michael Thomas had 23 assists and eight aces for Eldorado.

Blane Quitog led Del Sol with four kills, seven blocks, seven digs and five aces. Joseph Nehme added six blocks and three kills for the Dragons.

Coronado 3, Basic 1 — At Coronado, Travis Boman had 18 kills and 13 digs, and Max Osmundson racked up 15 kills, 13 digs, three aces and two blocks to help the Cougars to a 25-11, 25-22, 23-25, 25-18 win over the Wolves.

Logan Dickover added 57 assists, six digs and two aces, and Dallin Bryan had 15 kills and 10 digs for Coronado.

Joaquin Pequeno had 13 kills and seven digs, and Brad McDonald added six kills for Basic. Taylor Dyer had 27 assists for the Wolves, who got 15 digs from Austin McDonald.

Foothill 3, Liberty 1 — At Liberty, Trevor Robison had 12 kills, two blocks, seven aces and 12 digs to lead the Falcons past the Patriots, 25-18. 25-18, 21-25, 25-12.

Ryan Briggs had 12 kills and two blocks, and Colin Curi had 10 kills, four digs and three blocks for the Falcons, who got 37 assists and seven digs from Taeg Williams.

Liberty’s D.J. Norris had six kills and two blocks, and Shawn Cabunoc had four kills for the Patriots.

Mojave 3, Cheyenne 0 — At Mojave, Matt Albinio had nine kills and four blocks to help the Rattlers wrap up the Sunset League title with a 25-6, 25-15, 25-8 sweep of the Desert Shields.

Malik Wayman had nine kills and seven digs, and Brandon Hurtado had five kills, four aces and eight digs for the Rattlers, who got 18 assists from Jason Zambrano.

Dylan Johnson had three kills and five blocks, and Kyle Power had two kills and four blocks for the Desert Shields.

Bishop Gorman 3, Cimarron-Memorial 0 — At Cimarron, the Gaels were 25-20, 25-21, 25-13 winners over the Spartans.

Cimarron’s Roy Gonzalez had six kills and 14 digs, and teammate Dallas Cervantes had six kills and eight digs. Nate Starlin added 14 assists and 15 digs for the Spartans.

Legacy 3, Desert Oasis 0 — At Legacy, Trent Compton had 15 kills and 14 aces to lead the Longhorns to a 25-16, 25-10, 25-17 sweep over the Diamondbacks.

Braden Liu supplied 29 assists and two aces, and Tanner Compton added seven kills for Legacy. Rodolfo Robles recorded three kills for the Longhorns.

Clark 3, Western 0 — At Clark, Walt Benda had six kills and eight aces to lead the Chargers to a 25-13, 25-13, 25-11 sweep of the Warriors.

Jose Sahagun posted five kills and nine assists for Clark.

All-state teams to be announced in June

All-state teams in all eight spring sports will be released one per day, beginning on June 6 with boys golf.

Class 4A: Palo Verde rolls to state title

Ceci put the finishing touches on a 21-25, 25-16, 25-23, 22-25, 15-11 victory over the Falcons with a thunderous kill in the fifth and final set, clinching Coronado’s first region championship since 2013.

Roundup: Caleb Stearman helps Foothill into Desert final

Stearman’s sixth kill of the fifth set allowed the Falcons to complete a 20-25, 22-25, 25-20, 25-23, 15-11 comeback and advance to both Friday’s region final and next week’s state tournament.

Roundup: Kilmor Amor helps Spartans reach Mountain semifinals

Kilmor Amor had 15 kills, 23 assists and 10 digs Wednesday to help Cimarron-Memorial’s boys volleyball team down Shadow Ridge, 20-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-19 in the quarterfinals of the Mountain Region Tournament at Palo Verde.
