VOLLEYBALL: Sowa, Gorman rally past Bengals

Amadeus Sowa finished with 25 kills and four digs, and the Bishop Gorman boys volleyball team rallied to defeat visiting Bonanza 26-24, 23-25, 17-25, 25-23, 16-14 on Monday in a Southwest League match.

Gaels setter Cody Tom dished out 52 assists and added four digs, and teammate Tony Pitaro contributed 16 kills, seven digs and one block.

Kavanagh Buck led the Bengals with 10 kills and six blocks. Teammate Brian Clow added nine kills, 17 digs and two aces, while Adam Puckoris had 26 digs and one ace.

Desert Oasis 3, Cimarron-Memorial 2 — At Desert Oasis, Saunoa Afoa had 20 kills and 10 digs to lead the Diamondbacks to a 27-25, 26-28, 25-18, 27-29, 15-11 victory over the Spartans in a Southwest League match.

Quade Huff added 10 kills, and Nate Norr had seven kills and 22 digs for Desert Oasis, which also got eight kills and three blocks from Kodi Leslie.

Salvador Garcia paced Cimarron with 15 kills and four blocks. Taylor Larsen finished with 39 assists for the Spartans, while teammate Kyle Henriksen and Efrain Ambriz finished with 13 and nine kills, respectively.

Basic 3, Del Sol 0 — At Basic, Darin Klein had eight kills and five aces, and Taylor Dyer added 17 assists in the Wolves’ 25-17, 25-19, 25-18 victory over the Dragons in a Southeast League match.

Dylan Green and Joaquin Pequeno finished with two blocks each for Basic.

La’akea Cabanas led Del Sol with five kills and 17 assists. Teammate Deavan Holcomb chipped in with five kills and five digs, and Juan Mendoza had two kills and 12 blocks.

Eldorado 3, Liberty 0 — At Eldorado, Dakota Schultz produced 13 kills, and Joey Barnhurst tallied 35 assists to power the Sundevils past the Patriots 25-19, 26-24, 25-19 in a Southeast League match.

David Tran had four aces for Eldorado.

Braden Cabais finished with 16 assists to lead Liberty.

Desert Pines 3, Sunrise Mountain 1 — At Sunrise Mountain, Travis Nofoa had 12 kills, and Jose Meza added 24 digs and three aces to lead the Jaguars to a 25-12, 23-25, 25-10, 25-16 Division I-A victory over the Miners.

Bryan Garcia added 24 assists for Desert Pines.

Ricco Lucas led Sunrise Mountain with four digs, six kills, two blocks, 16 assists and three aces.

Demetrius Graves added eight kills for the Miners.

Tech 3, Chaparral 1 — At Tech, Tyler Gardenhire finished with 18 kills, five digs, three assists and two blocks as the Roadrunners overcame a slow start to beat the Cowboys 22-25, 25-15, 25-14, 25-23 in a Division I-A match.

Josh Wood had 26 assists to lead Tech’s offense and added seven kills and 10 digs. Bryan Catenza added five kills, six digs and three assists, and teammate Miguel Garcia chipped in with three kills, 11 digs and three assists for the Roadrunners.

Dominic Carr led Chaparral with 18 kills and nine blocks. Teammate Pierce Morgan finished with 27 assists and two aces.
