ROUNDUP: Amaya, Miners clinch school’s first team playoff spot
Tania Amaya collected four aces, three blocks and three kills Monday as Sunrise Mountain’s girls volleyball team secured the first playoff berth in a team sport in the school’s brief history with a 25-16, 25-15, 25-13 win at Canyon Springs.
Alicia Winchester added four kills and three blocks for Sunrise Mountain.
Las Vegas 3, Valley 0 — At Las Vegas High, Tiffany Jackson recorded 15 assists, six digs and two aces as the Wildcats swept the Vikings, 25-16, 25-12, 25-13.
Breana Melton added 10 digs and five kills, and Jessica Chavez had seven digs for Las Vegas.
Briana Johnson led Valley with 11 digs and five kills. Nyla Whalum added 11 digs, and Lenore Porter dished out six assists for the Vikings.
Chaparral 3, Desert Pines 0 — At Desert Pines, JeNiece Morgan spiked 19 kills, and Carolina Reyes distributed 24 assists to lead the Cowboys to a 25-16, 25-20, 26-24 victory over the Jaguars.
Michelle Estella had seven digs and five kills for Desert Pines. Aidriella Gbur added 14 digs, and Alaina Perez served four aces for the Jaguars.
Eldorado 3, Rancho 0 — At Eldorado, Chelsea Upshaw recorded 10 assists and three aces to lead the Sundevils to a 25-19, 25-23, 25-23 win over the Rams.
Chelsea Andersen dished out 12 assists for Eldorado, which got eight kills from Candace Watkins and six kills from Chelsea Sallander.
Green Valley 3, Silverado 0 — At Green Valley, Carly Schiess and Emma Johnson each spiked 12 kills to lead the Gators to a 25-21, 25-13, 25-21 sweep of the Skyhawks.
Schiess also served five aces for Green Valley, which added 11 digs from Alexa Drost and 29 assists from Jenna Swaffer.
Kayla Agae paced Silverado with 11 kills, 10 digs and two blocks, and Marilyn Agae supplied seven kills and four digs.
Coronado 3, Basic 0 — At Basic, Katie Gamsky dished out 31 assists to go along with 13 digs in lifting the Cougars to a 25-17, 25-16, 25-10 sweep of the Wolves.
Kuulei Piena had 22 kills and 13 digs, and Shelby Hart supplied eight kills and two blocks for Coronado.
Kamisha Richardson tallied six kills and five digs, and Kendall Dyer added nine digs for Basic.
Foothill 3, Del Sol 0 — At Del Sol, Zoe Wolfenbarger’s 12 assists, eight kills and eight digs helped the Falcons to a 25-11, 25-21, 25-14 win over the Dragons.
Cheyann Bullard had 11 digs, and Rhianna Gelhart added 10 digs for Foothill.
Liberty 3, Tech 1 — At Tech, Amanda Delgado notched 22 assists, 10 kills and six digs to propel the Patriots to a 25-15, 14-25, 25-10, 25-19 victory over the Roadrunners.
Reid Morgavi added 11 kills and five digs, and Nicole Fredericks had 10 digs and six kills for Liberty.
Alevia Houston had nine kills and two blocks, and McKayla Kimball supplied 16 digs for Tech.
Lincoln County 3, Parowan (Utah) 0 — At Panaca, the Lynx swept the Rams, 25-17, 25-23, 25-22.
