VEGAS INVITATIONAL: Newton helps Lake Mead to two wins
Ashley Newton had nine kills, seven digs and three blocks to help Lake Mead’s volleyball team to a 25-22, 11-25, 15-13 win over Shadow Ridge in the Las Vegas Invitational at Las Vegas High on Friday.
Megan Watkins added eight assists and six digs for the Eagles, and Tessa McQuillan had six digs. Heather Hillenbrand posted three digs and three kills for Lake Mead.

Lake Mead 2, Chaparral 0 — Watkins dished out eight assists in the Eagles’ 25-16, 25-12 win over the Cowboys.
Newton had five kills, three aces and three digs, and Hillenbrand supplied three kills and three aces.
Marina (Calif.) 2, Lake Mead 0 —The Vikings posted a 25-17, 25-11 win.
Newton tallied six kills and four digs, and Watkins added six assists for Lake Mead.
Centennial 2, Calvary Chapel 0 — The Bulldogs picked up a 25-22, 25-15 win over the Lions.
Brettani Davis registered five kills, five assists and five digs for Calvary Chapel. Brooke Davis added seven digs, and Bri Ridley had three kills for Calvary Chapel.
Bonanza 2, Calvary Chapel 0 — Bonanza held off the Lions, 26-24, 25-22.
Brettani Davis recorded five digs, four kills and three assists, and Brooke Davis added eight digs for Calvary Chapel. Bri Ridley contributed seven kills, and Kelsey Hannah collected four kills for the Lions.
Faith Lutheran 2, Boulder City 0 — Taylor Hammer had six kills and three aces to help the Crusaders to a 25-13, 25-14 victory.
Taylor Richards had six kills for Faith Lutheran. Kelsie McCourt added 18 assists and Chelsea Kronschnabel posted nine digs for the Crusaders.
Coronado 2, Faith Lutheran 0 — The Cougars were 25-15, 25-19 winners over Faith Lutheran.
Chris Portaro had six kills for Faith Lutheran. McCourt added five assists, and Kronschnabel racked up seven digs.
Valley Christian (Calif.) 2, Faith Lutheran 0 — Valley Christian notched a 25-21, 25-22 win over Faith Lutheran.
