Incline wins Class 2A state wrestling title

Incline ended Battle Mountain’s seven-year reign as Class 2A state wrestling champion Saturday.

The Highlanders finished with 140½ points at Winnemucca. Battle Mountain was second at 124 and Laughlin third at 83.

Cody Feliciano (103 pounds), Travis Causey (112) and Jordan Cronin (285) won individual titles for Incline, which finished eighth in Class 3A last season before dropping to 2A. The Highlanders also had two second-place finishers and two third-place finishers.

Allen Layno was the top finisher for Laughlin, winning the 215-pound championship with a decision over Eureka’s Jack Ashcroft.

The Meadows produced two champions with brothers Mike Kenny (135) and Pat Kenny (189). Mike Kenny pinned Laughlin’s Richard Camargo in 5 minutes, 18 seconds, and Pat Kenny pinned Laughlin’s Jimmy Stout in 53 seconds.

Three other Southern League wrestlers won titles.

Lincoln County’s Mauricio Escobedo took the 119-pound crown with a 12-4 major decision over Round Mountain’s Jordon Cutler.
Pahranagat Valley’s Jensen Jones pinned Mason Garrett of Wells in 1:27 to win at 130 pounds, and Tonopah’s Cody Serfoss pinned Indian Springs’ Antone Allen in 1:55 at 145.

White Pine had two runners-up: Skylar Hall (103) and Rusty Lewis (152). Chase Stanton (25) and Nico Ricci (135) finished third.

Josh Raimist of The Meadows was second at 171, and West Wendover’s John Roberts was second at 112.

Corey Cook was Laughlin’s other top-three placer, finishing third at 140.

Indian Springs’ Roger Atchley (152) and Derek Oliver (160) also had third-place finishes.
