WRESTLING: Skyhawks slip past Pioneers

Justin Miller pinned his opponent in 1 minute, 50 seconds at 285 pounds on Thursday as Silverado’s wrestling team edged host Canyon Springs, 42-38.

Alek Aragon (138), Braden Weaver (160) and Esteban Rodriguez (220) also won by fall for the Skyhwaks.

Soriano Rodriguez (113), Jose Yanez (120), Darius Jackson (132) and Gabriel Puga-Aguirre (195) won by pin for the Pioneers.

Centennial 44, Bishop Gorman 23 — At Centennial, Julian Whitehead (182) won by fall in 11 seconds as the Bulldogs downed the Gaels.

Ryan Pierce (106) pinned his opponent in 17 seconds, and teammates Hunter Brown (195) and Roger Alvarado (220) also won by fall for Centennial.

Zack Singer had Gorman’s only pin at 285.

Chaparral 49, Sunrise Mountain 21 — At Chaparral, Andrew Freeman-Thompson (138) won by fall in 47 seconds to help the Cowboys defeat the Miners.

Miguel Guerra (126) and Mario Gonzalez (152) each won by pin for Chaparral, which benefited from four Sunrise Mountain forfeits.

Sunrise Mountain’s Pedro Montano (132) and Thomas Butler (220) won by pin.

Virgin Valley 57, Moapa Valley 24 — At Mesquite, Blake Alegret-Proper (138) pinned his opponent in four seconds as the Bulldogs defeated the Pirates.

Jacob Colburn (195) won by fall in 22 seconds for Virgin Valley, which also got pins from Clancy Leavitt (113), Juan Dominguez (120), Cash Crandall (126), Hunter Woods (132) and Rafael Santiago (160).

Francesco Branca (170) and Tyson Mortensen (182) won by fall for Moapa Valley.

Faith Lutheran 62, Cheyenne 12 — At Cheyenne, Bryce Raymond (106) needed only 20 seconds to pin his opponent and help the Crusaders down the Desert Shields.

Trent Dolby (138) and Christian Khoury (220) also recorded pins for Faith Lutheran, which won six matches by forfeit.

Myral Orme (285) won by pin for Cheyenne.

Green Valley 64, Las Vegas 6 — At Las Vegas, Jon Gardner (195), Logan Hughes (220) and Anthony Valenti (285) each recorded a first-period pin as the Gators topped the Wildcats.

Walley Zernich (106), Jesse Gabriel (113), Josh Temple (126), Jared Brathor (132) and Jacob Etchings (182) also won by pin for Green Valley.

Cimarron-Memorial 70, Bonanza 12 — At Cimarron, the Spartans won seven matches by forfeit to easily defeat the Bengals.

Julian Edwards (160), Logan Marx-Hamilton (170) and Nathaniel Garcia (195) had first-period pins for Cimarron.

Devin Hosey (152) and Julian Bruce (220) won by fall for Bonanza.

Coronado 43, Eldorado 25 — At Coronado, Vishal Hunt (113), Randie Crowley (138), Daniel Hampton (152), David Gerard (160) and Dean Gerber (170) each won by pin to help the Cougars down the Sundevils.

Eldorado’s Terrell Washington (145) also won by pin.

Mojave 35, Western 34 — At Mojave, Angel Garcia recorded a first-period pin at 152 to help the Rattlers edge the Warriors.

Lanson Evangelista-Avenue (106), Rene Ruiz (126) and Francisco Rodriguez (195) also won by fall for Mojave.

Western’s Erik Gonzales won by fall in 36 seconds, and Andrew Solis (182) also had a pin for the Warriors.

Foothill 73, Del Sol 4 — At Foothill, Charles Atkerson won by pin in only 10 seconds at 195, and the Falcons routed the Dragons.

Kaden Lizares (106), Damian Ortega (120), Albert Chavez (126), Guillermo Rios (138), Joshua Gomez (145), Tanner Ericsson (152), Steven Thomas (160), Bobby Merritt (170), Joshua Ozuna (220) and Dylan Weasa (285) also won by fall for the Falcons.

Liberty 50, Basic 24 — At Liberty, Bakari Speights earned an overtime pin at 220 pounds to help the Patriots defeat the Wolves.

Adam Knepow (106), Jaylon Bates (120), Michael Martinez (126), James Morimoto (132), Zach Balden (152) and Nicholas Watnem (195) also won by fall for Liberty.

Blake Dennett (113) and Jotasem Funaki (285) had pins for Basic.

Pahrump Valley 43, Clark 20 — At Clark, David Martinez (113) won by pin in only 10 seconds to help the Trojans by the Chargers.

Antonio Sandoval (126), Stephen McCormick (145), Jonathan Corrow (160) and Scott Maughan (170) also won by pin for Pahrump.

Foday Konjan (106) won by pin for Clark.
