Kingman man convicted in 2011 Arizona shooting death

KINGMAN, Ariz. — Russell Shields, 44, of Kingman was convicted of second-degree murder Thursday in the July 2011 shooting death of Alberto Orosco.

The Mohave County Superior Court jury, after a two-week trial, also found Shields guilty of hindering prosecution, abandonment of a body, tampering with physical evidence and misconduct involving weapons.

Prosecutor Doug Camacho argued that Orosco, 28, was shot and killed for some $400 in cash. He said Shields and co-defendant John Langan, 34, removed the body from Shields’ garage and left it in a vehicle they parked in the 3200 block of Lomalai Street.

Shields faces a lengthy mandatory prison term when sentenced next month, on top of the 10 years he’s already serving for a methamphetamine conviction.

Langan is serving an 8¾-year prison term after taking a plea agreement in the case.
