Little bit of rockin’ for Marie Osmond
August 24, 2011 - 1:01 am
One of her songs popped into Marie Osmond's head Tuesday when an earthquake rattled the East Coast.
"Oh my gosh, felt the earthquake here in NJ while rehearsing," the Flamingo headliner tweeted. "Everyone ok?"
She added, "The piano started rockin' from the 5.9. Thought, this really is 'A Little Bit Country and a whole LOT more!' "
She and brother Donny started singing "I'm a Little Bit Country" on their 1976 TV show.
She'll probably have more to say about the quake during an appearance today in Morristown, N.J., where she is making a stop on her solo tour.
Morristown is about 300 miles from the quake's epicenter in Virginia.
LEIBER REMEMBERED
Songwriter Jerry Leiber will be long remembered for his musical legacy.
Many of his collaborations with record-producing partner Mike Stoller became hits for Elvis, The Coasters, The Drifters and Ben E. King.
Many in the Las Vegas entertainment community will remember the two for more than their contribution to the music industry.
When Billy Guy, the best-known member of the original Coasters, died in Las Vegas in late 2002, no next of kin came forward to handle his burial.
Las Vegas entertainers, including Nelson Sardelli, Pastor Lezlie Anders of Grace Ministries and members of The Coasters, put together benefit shows to avoid a pauper burial for Guy.
Word got back to Leiber. He and Stoller teamed up again, this time to honor a friend.
They agreed to come up with the balance for the $4,500 burial, said Anders, a former Las Vegas headliner who married singer Buddy Greco.
"Jerry's one of the real heroes," she told me at the time.
THE SCENE AND HEARD
Patrons at Blue Ribbon Sushi (The Cosmopolitan) were in for a surprise Friday when a large party broke into "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow." Among those serenading: British singing sensation Adele, who made her Las Vegas debut one night later at The Chelsea, The Cosmopolitan's concert venue. They were celebrating her tour manager's 50th birthday.
