3 boys found dead in back of SUV in LA, suspect in custody

Three young boys were found dead and a man was found with stab wounds inside a silver Nissan SUV Wednesday morning near an elementary school in South-Central L.A., police told KTLA.

Officers responded about 6:49 a.m. and found the four occupants on the 300 block of East 32nd street, an LAPD official said. Police found three boys aged 8 to 12 deceased in the rear of the vehicle and a man with stab wounds in the front seat.

An earlier statement said the man was in critical condition.

LAPD Chief Charlie Beck in a midday conference said a suspect was in custody but did not clarify if the wounded man was believed to have killed the boys.

The relationship between the man and the children is not yet known. The chief said the boys' mother is believed to be dead but there may be a step-mother.

"These are horrific incidents," Beck said. "These are incidents that scar not only a community but the first responders."

The vehicle was found across the street from Dolores Huerta Elementary School, KTLA reported

Police said the boys were not students of the nearby school, but were enrolled in the Los Angeles Unified School District.
