Report: Carjacking suspect tried to sell marijuana, gun to victims
Before a high-speed chase Monday that led to shots fired at officers, one of the suspects had tried to sell marijuana and a gun to the carjacking victims, according to police records.
Hugo Baldovinos, 21, of North Las Vegas, and a juvenile, Roland Gabaldon, were arrested for automobile theft, battery of a police officer with a deadly weapon and gun charges.
Baldovinos approached a man and woman at the Terrible Herbst at 3650 W. Sahara Ave. and tried to sell them marijuana, according to his arrest report.
“Neither victim wanted to offend the suspect, fearing he would get violent, so they engaged him in conversation,” the report said.
The victims got into their car with Baldovinos, who pointed the gun at them and demanded the man’s keys and cellphone after the couple turned down the drugs and handgun.
The woman told police Gabaldon approached the passenger side door, brandished a black handgun and demanded the woman’s Betty Boop purse and wallet.
She refused until Gabaldon threatened to shoot her fiance, the report stated.
Gabaldon was more aggressive than Baldovinos, she told police, and was the one who drove off in the car.
While the police were pursuing the stolen car, a woman opened the door and rolled out of the moving vehicle as it turned to make a left turn onto Deactur at Twain, the report said.
She told police she was at her friend’s house and asked for a ride home. Her friend said that some friends were coming over and they would taker her home. She knew the suspects only as “Dreamer” and “Daniel” and had no knowledge they had just committed a robbery and a carjacking.
During the pursuit of the Ford Focus, four shots were fired at police from the passenger side, according to Las Vegas police.
No one was injured during the incident.
Baldovinos was booked into Clark County Detention Center, and Gabaldon was booked into Clark County Juvenile Hall.
