No excuses for far-right hate groups

The rally in Charlottesville was called “Unite the Right.” Claims that it was merely an effort to preserve monuments to Southern rebel leaders are lies. The willingness of “Southern heritage” groups to ally themselves with neo-Nazis and the KKK reveals the racist nature of these groups.

Nazism represented the worst aspects of Western society. Its embrace by young Americans, as seen in photos and videos from the event, shows the extent to which the lies of right-wing media have taken hold.

The failure of the president to understand the threat to democracy of these right-wing elements and his fixation on supposed left-wing conspiracies and the media provide more evidence of how unsuited to his position he is.
